About this file

This is a Material Order Data sheet for bare welding electrodes and rods conforming to MIL-DTL-21562F (dated November 26, 2024). The document specifies ordering requirements for nickel, nickel alloy, and copper-nickel alloy welding electrodes and rods for federal procurement under IDN N4523A 6110-9800.

The material is available in two classes: Class 1 (wound bare electrodes in wire form) offered in spool weights ranging from 25 pounds to 700 pounds, and Class 2 (cut-length rods). Multiple alloy types are available including MIL-EN60 (Ni-Cu), MIL-EN61 (Ni), MIL-EN625 (Ni-Cr-Mo-Nb), and various other nickel-based compositions. Standard diameter sizes range from 0.035 inches to 1/4 inch. Materials must be ordered in specified unit quantities (Class 1a as 25-pound spools, Class 1b as forty 2-pound spools, Class 1c through 1i in drums ranging from 100 to 700 pounds, and Class 2 rods in 5 or 10-pound units). Critical specifications include maximum sulfur content restricted to 0.007 percent, mandatory alloy identity testing after final marking, plastic spool burn testing with sampling, and acceptable quality level of 2.5 percent defective using single sampling plans. Additional requirements specify 0.045-inch diameter electrode wound on 8-inch diameter spools with 10-pound spool weight for welding machine compatibility, with all qualifications and inspections per Class 1a standards. Containers must comply with MIL-W-10430 (preserved and packed commercial) and be marked per MIL-STD-129 in accordance with DLA Procurement Note C20.
