Taunton Public Schools Cafeteria Equipment Maintenance and Repair – Addendum No. 1
This addendum addresses vendor questions regarding Taunton Public Schools' Equipment Maintenance & Repairs Invitation for Bid (IFB) issued by the Food Service Department in Taunton, Massachusetts. The solicitation seeks equipment maintenance and repair services for cafeteria equipment across 10 schools within the district. The addendum, issued on May 12, 2026, by Glen Motta, Director of Food Services, clarifies bidder requirements and scope limitations for prospective vendors.
Key clarifications include that vendors are not required to hold refrigeration licenses for sealed system or refrigerant work; instead, the district may contract separately with a licensed refrigeration company for such services while engaging a primary vendor for mechanical repairs, door components, and appliance maintenance. Vendors must perform electrical work only on equipment itself, not building electrical infrastructure, with the City of Taunton electricians handling outlet, breaker, and switch repairs. Vendors may submit third-party dealer quotes for major equipment replacements when unable to perform the work directly. Additional clarifications confirm that bidders must submit references, contact information, and pricing details with their bids; Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) checks are completed post-award and must be conducted in Massachusetts; and "Other Fees" on bid submission pages include travel, mileage, gas, and additional labor charges beyond hourly rates.

ADDENDUM NO.1
Taunton Public Schools: Equipment Maintenance & Repairs IFB
To: All Prospective Bidders and Others
From: Glen Motta, Director of Food Services
Date: May 12, 2026
Subject: Questions Re: Bid for Cafeteria Supplies: Equipment Maintenance & Repairs
This Addendum serves to answer Vendor questions regarding the Equipment & Repairs IFB.
Vendor Questions:
1. In Section 14 under Specifications, the equipment list includes refrigerators, freezers, and walk-ins. As far as refrigeration repair is concerned, our company can repair and replace door gaskets, handles, closers, locks, hinges, and sweeps. We also can do complete walk-in door replacements. In fact, we have done large walk-in door replacements for the Rhode Island
Department of Corrections. However, according to Rhode Island regulations, we cannot work on the sealed system or replace refrigerant or Freon because we are not a licensed refrigeration company. We can service all cooking, food preparation, dishwashing, and coffee brewing equipment, including gas, steam, electric and microwave equipment. Will our company be disqualified from this bid because we are not a licensed refrigeration service company? Or would you consider hiring one company to repair the cooking, dishwashing, food prep equipment, and hardware components of the coolers and walk-ins, and hire a separate refrigeration company to repair the internal components of the refrigeration if the problem is related to the sealed system?
➢ The vendor will not be responsible for any work on the refrigerant or Freon repairs. They may be asked to repair mechanical issues such as door handles, door closure devices, or gaskets.
2. Also, in Section 14 there is a requirement about having experience with electrical wiring. I am not sure what is meant by this. Our technicians are capable to wire anything that is related to the equipment that we service; however, we are not licensed electricians so we cannot change wall outlets, wall switches, circuit breakers or run wiring to tie into the main panel. We only can service the equipment from the wall outlet to the unit itself. If any equipment does not operate because of a faulty wall outlet, then your electrician would have to change the outlet first before we can determine if there is a problem with the equipment.
➢ The vendor is only required to be able to perform electrical work pertaining to and within the piece of equipment being worked on. The City of Taunton electricians will repair any building electrical issues (outlets, breakers, switches etc.).
3. Again, in Section 14, there is a requirement about being able to replace old and outdated equipment. Our service technicians can replace garbage disposals, booster heaters for dish machines, and steam boilers for kettles and compartment steamers. For replacing larger items such as complete convection ovens, combi ovens, tilt skillets, etc., we would be able to provide a quote from an equipment dealer to do the replacement. Would that be a problem?
➢ The vendor should have the ability to be able to submit a quote for equipment purchases. If the vendor is using a third party dealer, the quote must come from the contracted vendor
4. In Section 22 Bid Criteria, letter e, regarding references, do you want us to include both the contact names and numbers of the references with the bid submission, or is this something that should be submitted after the bid is opened?
➢ The Bidder should include references with the bid submittal
5. Regarding the CORI check verification, do those have to be submitted with the bid, or can they be submitted by us if we were awarded the bid? Can the CORIs for our company be done in
Rhode Island or are we required to submit Massachusetts CORIs? Background checks for our service technicians will not be a problem for us because they are done each year by the State of
Rhode Island because we service the Department of Corrections and the Rhode Island Gaming
Facilities.
➢ CORIs will need to be completed once the bid is awarded. All CORIs will be based in Massachusetts
6. On the bid submission page where the line items for hourly rates are listed, there is a spot for
Other Fees. Would Other Fees include rates for Travel and Shipping?
➢ Other fees are defined as any additional fee charged above the hourly rate.
Examples include travel, mileage, gas, and any additional labor charges
Respectfully Submitted, Glen A. Motta
