About this file

This document outlines requirements for a reference satellite communications terminal to operate on the Kepler Satellite Constellation. The terminal solution must include software, controls, a Comtech CDM-760 modem configured for LEO operation, and a Dell server with Kepler network management software. The primary terminal components are specified as a 0.6m parabolic antenna with antenna control unit capable of LEO tracking, achieving typical performance metrics including correct polarization, EIRP, and gimbal pointing system. The related federal contract opportunity is solicited by NASA to procure the reference terminal to demonstrate new technology and establish bi-directional file transfers over the Kepler network for infusing NASA technology into future aircraft. The terminal must be delivered within one month of order receipt.

Kepler Reference Antenna

Background

The purpose of this document is to describe the requirements for reference terminal to operate on the

Kepler Satellite Constellation. As part of an ongoing Inter-Agency Agreement with the Navy, NASA is planning to demonstrate a new technology for operation on the Kepler system and is required to use a reference terminal as a baseline for comparison. This is a part of an activity to infuse NASA technology into future aircraft that could use the Kepler Constellation.

Requirements:

• A complete terminal solution including software, controls, modem, and RF front end

• Ability to track the Kepler LEO Constellation

• Establish Bi-directional links with satellites in the Kepler satellite constellation

• Conduct bi-directional file transfers of test files over the Kepler satellite constellation

Terminal Primary Components:

• A user terminal sized parabolic reflector antenna (0.6m) and antenna control unit configured for operation on the Kepler Satellite Constellation. This shall meet typical performance metrics for operation including correct polarization (CP), EIRP, and gimbal pointing system with controller capable of tracking a LEO constellation.

• A Comtech CDM-760 modem configured for LEO operation. The waveform on this specific modem is compatible with the constellation satellites

• A Dell R420/R210 with the Kepler software to initiate file transfers and manage the rest of the system components for operation on the Kepler Satellite Network.

This terminal shall be delivered to NASA 1 month of after receipt of order or sooner.
