About this file
This statement of work describes a procurement of micro pore optics plates for a NASA Marshall Space Flight Center astrophysics project. The project aims to design and fabricate a prototype lobster-eye telescope module in preparation for a 2025 Astrophysics Small Explorer proposal. The statement of work requests the procurement of 4 iridium-coated and 2 nickel-coated micro pore optics plates meeting the following specifications: a focal length of 500mm, radius of curvature of 1000m, pore size of 20 micron squares, and individual plate size of 40mm by 40mm with an aluminum optical blocking filter. The delivery time requested is 6 months after receipt of order. The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number 80NSSC851923Q for the procurement of the micro pore optics plates from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center.

Re: Statement of Work for NASA MSFC Astro-smex procurement of Micro Pore Optics
STATEMENT OF WORK
The 2025 Astro-smex project is a new collaboration in the Astrophysics branch at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center to prepare and submit a proposal in response to the Astrophysics Small Explorer (SMEX) announcement of opportunity anticipated in 2025. One of the instruments on this proposed mission is an X-ray lobster-eye telescope, which uses iridium or nickel coated glass micro pore optics (MPOs) to focus X-rays onto a solid state pixelated detector in order to make X-ray images of the sky for the detection and localization of gamma-ray bursts.
The project is currently designing and fabricating a prototype lobster-eye telescope module to be used to assess the technological readiness level of the telescope. As part of this prototype, we need to procure several MPO plates in order to manufacture an optics module that will be part of the telescope module. The design parameters for the MPOs are:
Focal Length: 500mm Radius of Curvature: 1000 m Pore Size: 20 micron square MPO plate size: 40mm x 40mm Aluminum Optical‐ Blocking Filter: Required Number of MPO Plates: 4 MPOs with Ir coating
2 MPOs with Ni coating Delivery time: 6 months after receipt of order or sooner
Thank you for your consideration of this work opportunity.
Sincerely, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center Huntsville, AL 35805
