About this file
This document is a Salient Characteristics specification for the 48th Logistics Readiness Squadron's procurement of one Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Low Loader Trailer. The procurement addresses critical capability gaps in heavy lift and transport operations across the UK road network, enabling safe movement of oversized or heavy-tonnage freight in compliance with Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) regulations and the Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR).
The required trailer is a tri-axle flatbed with a straight-frame design, featuring a standard external length of 13,600mm, external width of 2,550mm, and bed length of 7,600mm. Weight specifications include a 1,500 kg kingpin rating, 24,000 kg suspension capacity, and gross trailer weight of 39,000–45,000 kg to suit 44-ton operations. The chassis incorporates a bolt-in kingpin, H-type headboard, 570mm step depth gooseneck with 1,500mm air-assisted galvanized neck ramp at 22% loading incline, and extensive lashing points (3 pairs at 2.5-ton capacity on neck, 7 pairs at 5-ton on main deck, plus additional lashing rings throughout). The trailer includes 12 pairs of galvanized steel outriggers (150mm and 300mm extensions), 18 pairs of rope hooks, drum-type heavy-duty axles with rear lift-axle capability featuring auto lift/auto drop functionality, and a dual-line color-coded brake system with antiskid and load-sensing valves. Additional features include 35mm hardwood flooring, triple flip hydraulic ramps at rear with side shift capability, 24V electrical system with LED lighting and strobes, galvanized sideguards, mesh overlays on multiple surfaces, a 7-ton Bushey Hall T-Max DC 5000 Pro winch with remote control, fall arrest protection, wide marker boards, and toolboxes. All painted surfaces shall be shotblasted and coated with high-build primer and two-pack single-color topcoat in OEM Black finish for chassis, landing legs, axles, and hubs.
