About this file

This is a Statement of Work for the Rollatruss project, a NASA initiative investigating carbon fiber composite materials for lightweight deployable boom/truss structures. The contractor, acting as a U.S. distributor, shall deliver two composite prepreg products to NASA Langley Research Center within 12 weeks of order receipt. The first product is M30S 18K Plain Weave/PMT-F7 composite prepreg in spread format with specifications of 60 (±4) grams per square meter, 39.37 inches width, and 250 linear meters length at 35 (±2) percent resin content. The second product is MR60H Spread Tow/PMT-F7 composite prepreg in unidirectional format with specifications of 40 (±4) grams per square meter, 6 inches width, and 500 linear meters length at 35 (±2) percent resin content. Deliverables must include original manufacturer inspection and test reports, certificates of compliance, and inspection reports on all delivered materials. Products shall be shipped via dry ice and next-day delivery courier to Building 1238B, Room 127, NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA 23681-2199. The contractor shall coordinate with the manufacturer for production and import of MS30SC plain weave fabric used in these products. No technical or progress meetings with NASA are requested.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1.0 Introduction/Background:

The Rollatruss project is investigating the use of the highest performing material, carbon fiber composites, in the design of deployable boom/truss structures that collapse in a manner that minimizes strain during stowage. Leveraging the unique properties of plain weave composite prepreg and unidirectional prepreg tape, enables the development of jointless structures that achieve significant mass reduction in comparison to conventional deployable designs.

2.0 Scope of Work:

This SOW covers the application of selected materials in the development of lightweight deployable boom/truss batten and longeron components. Plain weave carbon fiber/PNT- F7 epoxy composite prepreg is proposed as the primary composition for the boom/truss structure while unidirectional carbon fiber prepreg tape serves as a rigid, low-density material for localized reinforcement within the structural model.

3.0 Objectives:

The contractor shall deliver the listed products in accordance with the specifications listed and under the tolerances outlined.

4.0 Description of the Work/Contractor Tasks:

The U.S. distributor/contractor shall deliver to NASA the following products listed in Table 1. These items shall be produced with the specifications listed and under the tolerances referenced:

Additional details:

The U.S. contractor shall liaise with manufacturer for the production and import of the MS30SC plain weave fabric used to make some of these products.

Items shall include the original inspection and test report and certificate of compliance from the manufacturer.

Inspection reports on the materials delivered shall be provided to NASA.

Dry ice and next-day delivery couriers should be employed to ship the final products to NASA No technical or progress meetings with NASA are requested.

5.0 Deliverables and Period of Performance:

The contractor shall deliver the two products listed in Section 4.0 within 12 weeks after receipt of order. Items shall be delivered to the following address:

NASA Langley Research Center Building 1238B, Room 127 Hampton, VA 23681-2199
