About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA's requirement for renting specialized modal testing equipment for the Lunar Roll-Out Solar Array (L-ROSA) project at the Langley Research Center in August and September 2025. The specific equipment needs include 23 triaxial IEPE accelerometers with precise technical specifications (PCB TLD356A17 or equivalent), 23 low-noise cables of varying lengths (19 x 50 ft and 4 x 20 ft), and two IEPE modal test hammers with different sensitivity ranges and capabilities. Each piece of equipment must include a Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) and a NIST-traceable calibration certificate.

The rental period is set for 60 days, with a start date between July 28 and August 8, 2025. All equipment will be delivered to NASA Langley Research Center at 4 S. Marvin Street, Hampton, VA 23681, specifically to Mail Stop 424, Building 1206 (Receiving). The equipment is intended to supplement NASA Langley's existing instrumentation for conducting a modal test of the Slit Tube Boom test article, with precise requirements for accelerometer sensitivity, measurement range, frequency response, and hammer tip characteristics.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements

The Lunar Roll-Out Solar Array (L-ROSA) project will be performing a modal test of the Slit Tube Boom test article at NASA’s Langley Research Center in August and September of 2025.

The modal test will require additional instrumentation beyond what is currently available at NASA Langley. Additional accelerometers, impact hammers, and related cables will need to rented in order to meet the instrumentation requirements for the test.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The rented equipment must include the following:

1. Qty 23 x Triaxial Integrated Electronics Piezo-Electric (IEPE) accelerometers that meet the following minimum specifications (PCB TLD356A17 or equivalent)

a. 500 mV/g sensitivity

b. ±10 g measurement range

c. Frequency response magnitude of ±5% from 0.5 Hz to 100 Hz

d. Phase response of ±5° from 2 Hz to 100 Hz

e. Non-linearity of ≤ 1%

f. Spectral noise < 20 μg/√Hz from 1 Hz to 100 Hz

g. 0.6 x 0.6 x 0.9 inches or smaller

h. 10 grams or less

i. Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS)

j. A NIST-traceable calibration certificate providing sensitivity at 100 Hz

2. Qty 19 x 50 ft long, low noise cable compatible with Item 1 at one end and, terminated in three BNC plugs at the other end (PCB 034G50 or equivalent)

3. Qty 4 x 20 ft long, low noise cable compatible with Item 1 at one end and, terminated in three BNC plugs at the other end (PCB 034G20 or equivalent)

4. Qty 1 x IEPE modal test hammer that meets the following minimum specifications (PCB TLD086C01 or equivalent)

a. 50 mV/lbf sensitivity

b. 100 lb measurement range

c. Non-linearity of ≤ 1%

d. Hammer mass approximately 0.1 kg

e. Replaceable tips of varying levels of softness, including at least one plastic tip and two softer tips

f. Transducer Electronic DataSheet (TEDS)

g. A NIST-traceable calibration certificate providing the sensitivity for all provided hammer tips

5. Qty 1 x IEPE modal test hammer that meets the following minimum specifications (PCB TLD086D20 or equivalent)

a. 1 mV/lbf sensitivity

b. 5000 lb measurement range

c. Non-linearity of ≤ 1%

d. Hammer mass approximately 1.1 kg

e. Replaceable tips of varying levels of softness with approximately 2 inch diameter

f. Transducer Electronic DataSheet (TEDS)

g. A NIST-traceable calibration certificate providing the sensitivity for all provided hammer tips

3. Place of Performance

All equipment is to be delivered to NASA’s Langley Research Center at the following address:

NASA Langley Research Center /Mail Stop 424 Building 1206, (Receiving) 4 S. Marvin Street Hampton, VA 23681
