About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) outlines NASA's requirement for a virtual training course on API 520/521 Pressure Relieving Systems. The training will cover comprehensive topics including pressure relief valve design, PRV sizing methods, installation requirements, relief system design philosophy, overpressure scenarios, and protection strategies for various systems like storage tanks and power boilers. The virtual course is designed to be 24 hours long (6 days, 4 hours per day) and is scheduled to be delivered between June and August 2025 by a contractor who will provide detailed instruction on technical aspects of pressure-relieving devices and systems.
The training curriculum encompasses technical areas such as basic terminology, PRV codes and standards, two-phase PRV sizing methods, installation requirements, overpressure scenarios, and specific relief protection strategies. Key topics include fire and blocked discharge scenarios, control valve failures, thermal relief situations, distillation column issues, chemical reaction risks, rupture disk usage, and overpressure protection for atmospheric storage tanks and power boilers. The training is being procured by NASA's Safety Center, specifically the Institutional Safety Training and Excellence division, with a request date of 4/22/2025.
