About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for modification of a radiation-resistant thermal test chamber for NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Radiation Effects and Analysis Group (REAG).

The contractor shall modify a standard Tenney TJR test chamber to support space radiation-induced chemistry research in mineral samples. Key requirements include: relocating all semiconductor components to a remote control chassis positioned outside the radiation environment; connecting the control chassis to the test chamber via 35 feet of interconnect wiring with a pluggable design to allow disconnection; ensuring the disconnect point has a maximum outside diameter under 3 inches to pass through a 3-inch ID opening in the radiation room wall (multiple connectors permitted if combined diameter remains under 3 inches); equipping the test chamber with a wheeled cart for relocation without lifting; and providing power to the remote control chassis rather than the test chamber itself. The work will be performed at NASA GSFC Building 22 Room 070A, the location of the Radiation Effects Facility (REF). Delivery of the completed system is required before July 15, 2026.

STATEMENT OF WORK Radiation-modified Test Chamber

1. Objective/Requirements Research into space radiation-induced chemistry in mineral samples is in need of a thermally controlled environment in order to properly study these chemical changes.

A system has been designed which utilizes a thermal test chamber to maintain specific temperatures during irradiation at the NASA GSFC Radiation Effects and Analysis Group (REAG) Radiation Effects Facility (REF) gamma chamber. A regular laboratory-grade test chamber has been modified to re-locate radiation-sensitive components to outside the radiation field. This modification has been procured in the past and is proven to withstand the radiation environment.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The contractor shall perform the following duties:

Modify a standard Tenney TJR test chamber, per design previously made, which include Remove all semiconductor components to a control chassis outside the radiation environment.

Connect control chassis to test chamber via 35’ of interconnect wiring.

Interconnect wiring must have a pluggable design, allowing the test chamber and control chassis to be disconnected.

The point of disconnect in the interconnect wiring must have a maximum outside diameter which allows it to pass thru a 3” ID opening in the radiation room wall.

This disconnect may be multiple connectors but the maximum diameter of the total wiring must remain under 3”.

The test chamber must have a cart with wheels that allow relocation of the test chamber without lifting its weight.

Power to the system must be provided to the remote control chassis, not the test chamber itself.

3. Place of Performance

REF, REAG, NASA GSFC. This is in Building 22 Room 070A.

4. Period of Performance Delivery of the completed test chamber system shall be before 15 July 2026.
