Salient Characteristics
The 91st Security Forces Group is looking to purchase a layering clothing solution for the austere environments here at Minot AFB, North Dakota. For years, the ECWCS Layering systems have been used, but better options exist that provide an increase in warmth, wind protection, and mobility. These increases provide an overall rise in lethality and capability for the 91 SFG Defenders responsible for securing Minot AFB missile complex. The following requirements were used as salient characteristics and overall choice of product:
1) A light to medium weight jacket with water resistance that is lightweight, packable, and does not restrict overall movement. This jacket needs to have Polartec Alpha insulation to provide active warmth and static warmth in milder cold fronts.
2) A medium weight jacket and pants with water/wind/abrasion resistance. The jacket and pants need to have Polartec Alpha active insulation to provide warmth and mobility for the various mission sets of the 91 SFG.
3) A heavier jacket and pants that provide static warmth over active warmth for the winter months. This needs to have Primaloft insulation and be more compressed than the ECWCS Gen III Layer 7. Wind resistance and water repellant is required.
4) Operational camoflauge pattern that is in compliance with AFI 36-2903.
