About this file
This document is an ABS Global Engineering review letter for a Monitor & Alarm System Profinet Upgrade for two NOAA research vessels: "OSCAR ELTON SETTE" (Class No. 8801905) and "GORDON GUNTER" (Class No. 9000291), built by Halter Marine Inc. (Hull nos. 1123 and 1128). The review was conducted in accordance with ABS Rules for Building and Classing Marine Vessel, 2020, and addressed to Mr. Tim Langdon at the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration.
The letter includes three technical comments requiring resolution: (1) Alarm system access controls must be modified to require keyswitch, keycard, or password methods, (2) The system, classified as a Category II Computer Based System, requires ABS Surveyor witnessing of on-board system tests and maintenance of development documentation, and (3) The centralized control station must be equipped with at least two computers capable of displaying monitoring information. The documents were reviewed with comments, and electronic copies are available in the ABS Client Portal. The review was electronically published by ABS Houston on 19-JAN-2021, with contact information provided for clarifications.
