About this file
Summary
This is a Supplemental Specifications document for the R2 Bridge Paving Bundle 2023 project, issued by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) for bridge deck paving and related work on multiple state highways. The project encompasses work on six bridges across various Oregon highway corridors, including Pacific Highway West (BR08904), North Santiam Highway (BR18016 and BR08071), Willamina-Salem Highway (BR08889), Pacific Highway East (BR08221E), OR228 (BR01428A), and Oregon Coast Highway (BR01498, BR01499, BR00505, and BR07224). The scope includes bridge removal, deck cold plane pavement removal, concrete deck surface preparation, expansion joint installation, polymer membrane application, asphalt concrete pavement (ACP) placement, and pavement markings. Control joints total 858 feet across the six bridges, with asphaltic plug joint seals required on Bridge No. 01498 (27 feet). Traffic lane closures are permitted during specified nighttime and off-peak periods, with restrictions varying by location to minimize impact on commute times and weekend travel.
The specifications establish detailed material and installation requirements, including PG 64-22 grade asphalt cement, emulsified asphalt tack coat application, and field compaction testing protocols. Testing requirements mandate minimum daily quality control tests for asphalt mixes, with specific AASHTO and ODOT test methods specified. Joint installation requires manufacturer-trained personnel and pre-installation notification to the Engineer at least seven calendar days in advance. Contractor traffic control plans must include dedicated flagger stations and daily traffic control inspection reports. Payment for control joints is included in applicable paving items unless separately listed in the Schedule of Items. The supplemental specifications modify the Standard Specifications in multiple sections related to traffic control, deck preparation, expansion joints, and asphalt paving to ensure compliance with project-specific conditions and safety requirements.
