Statement of Work (SOW) Project: WEO Vineyard Pruning Spring 2022

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Scope of Work:

This job entails pruning of 15 acres of grapes. These vines are grown for budwood and have large amounts of suckers growing from their trunks. This includes grape weed seedlings that need to be cut back as well. This collection is also comprised of wild species that are inherently vigorous and overgrown with up to 50ft growth per year. Method of pruning is cane pruning. We also have a rootstock block that needs head pruning at ground level. Vines will also need to be tied to the trellis and grape brush needs to be placed in center between rows.

2.0 Background:

The vineyard is cut back to two main canes on each vine on an annual basis. These canes are then tied to the trellis wire. Two rootstock rows are head trained. This historically has been done almost exclusively by contracted labor. There will continue to be an annual need for pruning.

CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS

3.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks:

· Task 1: Remove suckers and prune vines, including overgrown wild species, using cane pruning method on 14.6 acres. Canes will be cut to roughly 3-4 feet in length and directed to the right on the nearest trellis wire. A few two bud spurs will be left on the main head of the grape vine.

· Task 2: Tie grape canes to trellis on 14.6 acres using typically one or two tie points per cane.

· Task 3: Cut back grape weed seedlings to the ground on 14.6 acres.

· Task 4: Place grape brush in center “alley ways” between rows on 15 acres. Brush will be chipped so it is best to have it centered in a 3-foot wide and as low to the ground as possible pile.

· Task 5: Head prune rootstock block at ground level by cutting back all vines to two bud spurs on 0.4 acres.

4.0 Government Furnished:

The government will provide tie tape for tying the grape vines to the trellis.
