About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details the procurement of an inverted fluorescent microscope for the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM/PHE) Epi Lab. The microscope will be used with the ELVIS HSV (Herpes Simplex Virus) system to analyze herpes samples through microscopic analysis. The required microscope must have specific technical characteristics, including a compact size (no larger than 200mm wide, 330mm tall, 498mm deep), a trinocular head, camera port, multiple fluorite objectives (4X, 10X, 20X), a 50MM stage plate insert, 4000K LED light source, and fluorescence capabilities with blue and green excitation.
The SOW specifies 13 detailed requirements for the microscope, including fluorescence illumination, a pE-300Lite LED system, dust cover, and installation. The document is dated 6 August 2025 and represents a new testing methodology for the Epi Lab, with the vendor expected to provide a single microscope that can precisely visualize and analyze herpes samples by selecting and controlling the excitation light used to illuminate the samples.

STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)
Inverted Fluorescent Microscope
Document Date: 6 August 2025
Background & Scope:
USAFSAM/PHE is utilizing the ELVIS HSV (Herpes Simplex Virus) system to analyze herpes samples.
This represents a new testing methodology for the Epi Lab. To ensure accurate confirmation of positive herpes cases, samples will now be examined using microscopic analysis.
The vendor shall provide one (1) inverted fluorescent microscope to visualize and analyze herpes samples.
The microscope must possess the capabilities and required objectives to fluoresce positive herpes samples.
It must include a feature that allows you to select and control the excitation light used to illuminate the sample.
Requirements/Salient Characteristics:
1. Shall be no larger than 200mm wide, 330mm tall, 498mm deep (not including light source).
2. Shall include a trinocular head.
3. Shall have a camera port
4. Shall include a 4X fluorite Objective (NA 0.13, WD 17MM).
5. Shall include a 10X fluorite Objective (NA 0.3, WD 10MM).
6. Shall include a 20X fluorite Objective (NA 0.5, WD 2.1MM).
7. Shall include a 50MM Stage Plate insert.
8. Shall have 4000K color temperature LED light source
9. Shall have fluorescence capabilities.
10. Shall include fluorescence illumination with blue and green excitation on slider.
11. Shall include pE-300Lite LED system.
12. Shall include a dust cover.
13. Shall include installation.
