STATEMENT OF WORK
1) BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Research Technologies Branch (RTB), Protein Chemistry Section (PCS) enables intramural National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) investigators to use state-of-the-art applications in mass spectrometry, bioinformatics, peptide synthesis and analysis, and protein sequencing in their research programs. Peptide synthesis and analysis provides synthetic peptides, peptide-carrier protein conjugates, peptide purification, and quality control analyses. In addition, our staff is available for advice and consultations. In cooperation with protein sequencing and mass spectrometry, extensive support is available for expert analysis and characterization of peptides, proteins, and small bio-molecules. The PROCISE Protein Sequencers in RTB are the only machines capable of determining the amino acid sequence of proteins/peptides in the NIH community. They are necessary to determine whether or not proteins/peptides are correctly made, by unravelling the amino acid residues from one end of a molecule. Many of the projects involve proving that proteins produced from recombinant sources are pure and therefore usable for antibody production or structural studies involving X-ray crystallography. Additionally, many times proteins can become degraded for a number of different reasons and by utilizing the sequencers we can locate the site of degradation or the reason for this breakdown. Therefore, it is imperative to obtain a Service Agreement for the PROCISE Protein Sequencers to maintain instruments in optimal condition.
These instruments are constantly in use daily and if it were put out of action due to lack of maintenance or mechanical failure the ability of the investigators in the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) to conduct their research would severely handicapped. It is for this reason that a Service Agreement is essential.
2) SCOPE
The scope of this acquisition is to provide a service agreement for two (2) PROCISE Protein Sequencers that consist of the following: 1) Sequencer AB Model 494, Serial #9409169J that includes a PE200 UV detector s/n 292N0060802E and AB 140C HPLC pump s/n 19408167 , and 2) Sequencer AB Model 491, Serial #1000000035 that includes a PE200 UV detector s/n 292N4091001 an AB 140D HPLC pump s/n 110000078.
3) CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS:
