About this file

This statement of work outlines requirements for a long-wave infrared and short-wave infrared polarimetric imaging system. The Air Force Institute of Technology seeks to procure pixelated polarimeters for both the LWIR and SWIR spectral ranges, with resolutions of 640x512 and frame rates above 20 Hz. Required lenses, software, and other accessories are specified. The system must be delivered within six months of contract award and covered under a one-year warranty. Training and installation are also to be provided. This supports the solicitation for Polaris Sensors Technologies Inc. to provide the described LWIR and SWIR polarimetric imagers under contract number FA860124Q0028 with the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command.

Statement of Work For

Long-Wave and Short-Wave Polarimetric Imaging System

Title: Long-Wave and Short-Wave Polarimetric Imaging System

Document Date: 12/5/2023

This document covers the purchase, installation, service, warranty, training, and commissioning of a Long-Wave and Short-Wave polarimetric Imaging System to be implemented at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT)

1. Scope: Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR) and Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) Polarimetric Imaging System that can take pictures and video in the LWIR and SWIR spectral range.

Background: The Pyxis is polarimetric imaging which operates in the Long-Wave and Short-Wave infrared regime and generates images consisting of four unique polarized states. This data allows you to isolate strongly polarized objects such as camouflage or chemical spills. These cameras, and associated software, represent a significant advancement in technology level compared to AFIT's current multispectral imaging capabilities. Polarized imagers are key for many remote sensing applications, including target/camouflage detection, disturbed earth detection to locate IEDs, environmental & effluent monitoring, and ground-truth data collections for other national assets. This additional capability would be both advanced enough to enable new research, but also simple enough to use in AFIT / ENP's OENG 616 lab. The streamlined software interface and intuitive built-in calibration will enable students to quit fighting against antiquated instruments and focus on learning the physics. This combination of moderate spatial resolution along with polarization states represents a new capability that will immediately enable new defense-centered research and improve the results of on-going projects.
