1.0 BACKGROUND

During 2010, the USACRC moved along with the United States Army Criminal Investigation Division (USACID) from the Fort Belvoir, Virginia, installation to the Russell-Knox Building (RKB), Quantico, Virginia. During this transfer, a Kardex Movable Shelving System was purchased and installed for storage of criminal law enforcement records and digital media. However, as of date and due to age of the Kardex Movable Shelving System, there have been numerous occasions where the system has been non-operational due to the motors and/or electronics requiring significant maintenance or parts replacement. Previous coordination with Kardex, revealed USACRC’s Kardex Movable Shelving System to include motors and electronics are no longer manufactured and there are no supply of replacement parts. Currently, repairs are completed by obtaining replacement parts from agencies who are replacing their outdated Kardex Movable Shelving Systems. In upgrading the USACRC’s Kardex Movable Shelving System with upgraded motors and electronics the shelving system would be more reliable, replacement parts readily available and there would be no requirement to replace existing floor tracks, carriages or shelving. Further, the installation of upgraded motors and electronics would not require unloading the shelving.
