STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)
FOR
TORQUE INDICATOR
PREPARED BY:
Product Director, TMDE
ATTN: SFAE-CSS-FP-TM-CAL
Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898-5000
Date: 11/18/2020
DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited.
1. Torque Indicator - Scope: These requirements are for a torque indicator that shall provide excitation voltage to U.S. Army reaction type torque transducers, measure their output signals, then convert the signals and display them in suitable engineering units of torque on the front display. The torque indicator, with U.S. Army torque transducers, will be utilized in the manual calibration of torque wrenches and screwdrivers.
1.1. Weight: Item shall not exceed 31 pounds.
1.2. Dimensions: 17.8125” width maximum and 20.5” depth maximum.
1.3. Environmental Conditions: Shall withstand the following conditions:
1.3.1. Operating Temperature Range: 60 to 90 ºF
1.3.2. Storage Temperature Range: 0 ºF to 145 ºF
1.3.3. Humidity Range: 20% to 90% RH, non-condensing
1.3.4. Shipping: Standard commercial shipping conditions.
1.4. Power: Item shall operate on 120VAC 60Hz, 15A single phase, standard U.S. electrical power, and come equipped with standard U.S. NEMA type B plug.
1.5. Warm-Up Time: 30 minutes or less.
1.6. Display: LED, LCD, or Plasma screen with alpha numeric characters.
1.7. Displayed Information: The item shall display the following on the main display:
Currently selected transducer information (i.e. Serial Number, Direction), measurement units, and current mode (i.e. first peak, peak).
1.8. Measurement Units: The item shall allow the user to select and change the displayed units of measurement by means of front panel keypad. At a minimum, the item shall display the following units: lbf-ft, lbf-in, N-m, mV/V.
1.9. User Interface: All functions of the item shall be accessible through the front panel display or main user interface.
1.10. Sample Rate: The item shall have a minimum sample rate of 0.001 seconds (1 kHz), in order to capture the first peak of a snap action torque wrench or screwdriver.
1.11. Excitation Voltage: The item shall be able to supply an excitation voltage of 5V or 10V.
Item shall have capability to remote sense the excitation voltage at the transducer and use this measurement to calculate the mV/V measurement.
1.12. Measuring Range: The item shall have a minimum measurement range of +/- 3.5 mV/V.
1.13. Total Measurement Error: The total measurement error of the item shall be no greater than +/- 0.075% of reading over 20% to 100% of the measurement range in 1.12.
1.14. Transducer Calibration Data Storage: The item shall allow the user to store at least 16 sets of transducer calibration linearization data into the indicator’s internal memory. The item shall allow at least a 3-point linearization for each transducer. Using either point-to-point or a polynomial curve fit is acceptable. Current U.S. Army torque transducers do not have internal memory.
1.15. Torque First Peak Function: The item shall have a function which acquires, measures, then holds the torque value of the FIRST peak torque response of a torque sensor as increasing torque is applied to snap action type torque wrenches during their calibration.
1.16. Torque Peak Function: The item shall have a function which holds the HIGHEST torque applied as increasing torque is applied to dial type torque wrenches during their calibration.
1.17. Transducer Connections / Provided Cable: A single cable shall be provided with the item to connect the indicator to transducers with MS3102E-14S-5P or MS3102R-14S-5P circular connectors. Cable length shall be at least 5 feet. A minimum of one cable shall be provided with the following connections:
PIN FUNCTION
A Signal (-)
B Excitation (-), Sense (-)
C Ground
D Signal (+)
E Excitation (+), Sense (+)
1.18. Remote Interface: The item shall have remote interfaces of either IEEE 488.2, RS- 232C, Ethernet, or USB. USB is only acceptable if the item is not recognized as a flash media.
Contractor shall provide programming and remote communication command set.
1.19. Software: External software running during transducer calibration is acceptable. Any external software required to meet all specifications shall be provided. Any software required for transducer calibration shall be provided.
1.20. TEDS: Shall support TEDS read/write capabilities per IEEE 1451.4 (Standard for a
Smart Transducer Interface for Sensors and Actuators— Mixed-Mode Communication protocols and Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) Formats).
1.21. Calibration:
1.21.1. The item shall meet all performance requirements, without requiring any adjustments, for a period of at least 1 year.
1.21.2. The indicator’s calibration and maintenance adjustments shall be accessible and modifiable by the U.S. Army. Hardware and software beyond the Army’s Secondary Reference calibration/repair capability shall be provided to support the calibration/repair of item. U.S. Army capability is available upon request.
1.21.3. Repair parts shall be available for user repair of the item. Any repairs deemed “manufacture only” shall be specified and justified.
1.22. Manual: Manual Set shall include the following:
1.22.1. Operating instructions
1.22.2. Calibration/Verification and adjustments with recommended test points.
1.22.3. Manufacturer’s Maintenance Manual, covering the following: theory of operation
(board-level), Board-level repair, error codes, illustrated parts breakdown, provisioning parts list (major assemblies, high failure items, recommended spares, etc.).
