About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details the procurement of a Formlabs Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printer for the United States Naval Academy's Makerspace Additive Manufacturing Lab. The objective is to acquire a high-precision, industrial-grade 3D printing system that will support advanced research, hands-on learning, and innovation across engineering, design, and materials science disciplines. The specific requirements include a 30W laser-powered printer with an enclosed benchtop design, integrated powder recovery system, and the ability to produce industrial-grade parts in a compact laboratory format.

The deliverables encompass a complete SLS 3D printer system with all required components, including powder handling and post-processing accessories, a software package compatible with industry-standard file formats, installation and setup services, training sessions for designated personnel, and warranty/technical support documentation. The system will be delivered to the United States Naval Academy, with the vendor responsible for providing installation guidance, training (virtual or in-person), and a minimum one-year warranty or factory technical support. The printer will also need to be connected to the internet and will require proper IT department permitting.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1.0 OBJECTIVE

The objective of this procurement is to acquire a high-precision Formlabs Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printer to support advanced additive manufacturing testing and research with USNA Makerspace Additive Manufacturing Lab. The system will enable advanced research initiatives, hands-on learning, and innovation across engineering, design, and materials science disciplines. By providing access to industrial-grade additive manufacturing technology, the project aims to enrich faculty-led research and offer students experiential learning opportunities aligned with modern manufacturing and prototyping techniques.

2.0 SCOPE

This project encompasses the procurement, installation, and integration of an enclosed, power-based SLS 3D printing solution suitable for institutional research use. The scope includes:

Procurement: Acquisition of a complete SLS 3D printing system, including the printer, Build Chamber, post-processing accessories/sifter, and all necessary software and safety equipment.

Installation: Installation will be done by the customer. Vendor shall provide training/guidance to the customer for proper installation.

Training: Vendor shall provide any required training to the customer either virtual or in person for proper installation and operation of the printer.

Special Characteristics: The printer shall be a high-powered 30W laser with an enclosed benchtop design, and integrated powder recovery system. The printer shall be able to print industrial-grade part quality in a compact format suitable for a campus laboratory.

The 3D printer will be connected to the internet and therefore will interface with ITSD. Proper permitting will be obtained by the customer with government IT department.

3.0 DELIVERABLES

The following items are required for a complete system package for the Formlabs SLS printer:

SLS 3D Printer System with all required components, including powder handling and post-processing accessories.

Software Package compatible with industry-standard file formats (.STL, .OBJ) for print preparation and monitoring. Software upgrades and parameter control should allow for optimization of sintering settings for different materials.

Installation and Setup, including calibration and system verification to ensure operational readiness of the machine.

Training Session(s) for designated personnel on system operation, material handling, and maintenance.

Warranty and Technical Support documentation outlining service terms, response times, and maintenance provisions. Warranty shall be provided for at least 1 year or factory warranty/technical support, whichever is higher, including troubleshooting assistance and firmware/software updates.

4.0 SITE

The final set-up with the steps above will be done upon delivery of the system to the United States Naval Academy.
