About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a Multi-Shot Pyrolyzer system to be delivered to the Astrobiology Analytical Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The SOW specifies the requirements for the pyrolyzer system, including a built-in analytical trap, temperature control capabilities, compatibility with existing lab equipment, installation, training, warranty, and vendor qualifications.
The related federal contract opportunity is a pre-solicitation notice for the Multi-Shot Pyrolyzer requirement. NASA intends to issue a sole source contract to Quantum Analytics under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i) as the only source that can meet the specific requirements. The contract will be for commercial items and services using FAR Part 12 and FAR Part 13 procedures. Interested organizations may submit capability statements by 9/11/2024 for the government to determine if the requirement should be competed. Performance will be located at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

STATEMENT OF WORK FORMAT
Multi-Shot Pyrolyzer NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
August 2024
PR: 4200879303
BACKGROUND
The Astrobiology Analytical Laboratory (AAL) in code 691 uses state-of-the-art commercial analytical instruments to investigate the distribution, origin, and formation processes of organic compounds in a variety of samples. These samples include extraterrestrial materials (e.g., carbonaceous meteorites or samples returned from NASA missions such as OSIRIS-REx), terrestrial natural samples, and laboratory analogs. The acquisition of a multi-shot pyrolyzer will add considerable capabilities (e.g., separation and identification of compounds based on their volatility) necessary for the analysis of trace organic species in complex mixtures beyond those possible using derivatization protocols. These increased capabilities will assist in the identification of the nature and sources of organic compounds that may have contributed to the origin of life, directly addressing section 6, subsection Q3.6 of NASA’s “Origins, Worlds, and Life: A Decadal Strategy for Planetary Science and Astrobiology 2023-2032” strategic plan to understand “what established the primordial inventories of volatile elements and compounds in the inner solar system?”. In addition, this instrument suite will support contamination testing for the OSIRIS-REx mission in FY23. This instrument will become a key component of the AAL and will combine with those already present to allow NASA Goddard to address several Space and Earth Science research questions.
SCOPE OF WORK
The multi-shot pyrolyzer system and associated options shall be delivered to the Astrobiology Analytical Laboratory at NASA Goddard and installed. The technician shall perform the necessary work to set up the system and connect it to the electrical and gas supplies in the laboratory.
REQUIREMENTS
1) A built-in analytical trap that supports Multi-Shot Pyrolyzer (EGA/PY-3030D) for AC110V.
2) A temperature control calibrated and programmable from ambient to 900°C with ± 0.1°C accuracy.
3) Compatibility with standard split/splitless injection port module (no Helium Saver Option).
4) A MicroJet Cryo-Trap (MJT-2030E) for Thermo TRACE GC Ultra, and the necessary mass spectrometer connector to operate the system.
5) Installation must be included.
6) Familiarization training is required to train potential users of the instrument suite.
7) A one-year warranty is required.
8) The vendor must have a nationally recognized expertise with pyroprobe pyrolyzer design and an established history of instrument support and service.
DELIVERABLES OR DELIVERY SCHEDULE
Quantum Analytics shall deliver a complete Frontier Laboratories, Ltd. Multi- Shot Pyrolyzer (EGA/PY-3030D).
Frontier Laboratories, Ltd. shall deliver a Frontier Laboratories, Ltd. EGA/PY- 3030D/ PY-3030S Installation kit for Thermo TRACE 1600 GC.
Electronic manuals, documentation, and copies of the supporting software shall be delivered within 180 calendar days after the award.
The system shall be installed, calibrated, and certified by a trained Quantum Analytics and Frontier Laboratories technician.
The technician shall train lab members in instrument operation and sample analysis during installation for two additional days after installation.
Frontier Laboratories shall provide and a 1-year warranty starting on the completion date of the installation followed by 2-year service agreement.
PLACE OF PERFORMANCE
The installation and future utilization of this instrument will be in the Astrobiology Analytical Laboratory at NASA Goddard.
