About this file

This statement of work outlines requirements for the procurement of Micro Pulse Lidar equipment for the NASA MPLNET project. The scope includes the purchase of 3 MPL enclosures, 3 enclosure sun baffles, 4 Wide Field Receivers, and 4 miniMPL mounts from Aether Embedded, the current supplier. The equipment will be engineering duplicates of models currently used by MPLNET. Partial deliveries and invoicing are acceptable. All items and associated manuals, cables, and assembly hardware must be delivered by May 1, 2024. The related pre-solicitation federal contract opportunity posted is under solicitation number 80NSSC237952 for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center.

STATEMENT OF WORK FORMAT

Purchase of MPL Environmental Enclosures

PR: 4200847952

Background

The NASA MPLNET project has been in operation since 2000 and collects information on the vertical distribution of atmospheric aerosols and clouds to support the NASA Earth Science research program. The project utilizes specific, commercially available atmospheric lidar instruments manufactured by Droplet Measurement Technologies (formerly Leica Geosystems, and Sigma Space Corporation before that). The lidar instruments are Micro Pulse Lidar (MPL) and mini Micro Pulse Lidar (a smaller, cheaper form factor).

MPLNET deploys these lidar instruments worldwide, and they must be installed inside an environmental enclosure with an observation window for network operations. MPLNET uses all-weather enclosures from Aether Embedded that are designed specifically for the MPL and miniMPL. These meet all our requirements. Here we seek to procure 3 engineering duplicates of the all-weather MPL enclosures with 3 sun baffle accessories.

The MPL and miniMPL instruments require several calibrations to transform the raw data to usable signals by the MPLNET project. The overlap calibration requires use of a secondary receiver called the wide field receiver (WFR) that is mounted to the MPL or miniMPL. The WFR calibration approach has been used in MPLNET since 2003.

MPLNET uses the WFR from Aether Embedded that are designed specifically for the MPL and miniMPL. Here we seek to procure 4 engineering duplicates of the WFR and associated mounting equipment.
