About this file
This document is a Statement of Work for the procurement of a cryogen-free bolometer system for an optical characterization facility. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center seeks to acquire a pulse-tube cooled superconducting transition-edge-sensor bolometer system from QMC Instruments, Inc. that will provide noise equivalent power of less than 1.5 pW/rt(Hz) at 275 GHz with 80 Hz modulation, an optical time constant of no more than 300 microseconds, a 3 THz lowpass filter for band selection, a pulse tube cooler and associated water-cooled helium compressor, and a cooldown time of no more than 6 hours. Delivery of the bolometer system is required within 8 months of receipt of order, with all work completed by May 31, 2024 at the Goddard Space Flight Center where the system will be operated.

STATEMENT OF WORK FORMAT
Procurement of Cryogen-Free Bolometer System for Optical Characterization Facility
18 July 2023
PR: _____________________
Background The Observational Cosmology Lab of the Goddard Space Flight Center develops far-infrared, sub-millimeter, and microwave optical components and instruments for NASA astrophysics missions. Precise characterization of the optical transmission properties of materials and components is critical in enabling these missions. A custom Fourier-transform spectrometer has been developed that requires a sensitive broadband cryogenic detector. The required QMC Instruments Nb transition-edge-sensor (TES) bolometer system provides a unique turnkey system that operates continuously without a need for liquid or gaseous helium.
This will improve the measurement stability and throughput of this system to significantly enhance this critical optical characterization facility.
Scope
QMC Instruments, Inc., will provide a pulse-tube cooled superconducting transition-edge-sensor bolometer system with integrated detector readout.
Requirements noise equivalent power (NEP) < 1.5 pW/rt(Hz) at 275 GHz with 80 Hz modulation.
