STATEMENT OF WORK FORMAT
PR:
Background
A 2.5 meter diameter, carbon-fiber optic (mirror) that was previously flown on astrophysical research balloon in Antarctica is to be shipped from a storage facility in California to NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center for the purpose of optical and mechanical testing.
Scope
The mirror is attached to a metal three-element mounting frame, and it is in a crate. The entire package, including crate weighs 1350 lbs. It has dimensions of 118 x 113 x 43 inches, see Figure 1.
This item is to be shipped from Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme, California (postal code 93043) to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt Maryland (20771).
Figure 1. Science package for shipment to NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center. 1350 lbs;118 x 113 x 43 inches
Requirements
• Delivery of above product from Naval Base Ventura County (postal code 93043) to Goddard Space Flight Center (postal code 20771)
• A partial or dedicated trailer should be used. Partial means we can share truck space with another shipment or dedicated, which means our package is the only shipment on the truck; but we do not want an “LTL” shipment, whereby the package may be loaded/unloaded onto more than one truck to complete various legs of its journey; each load/unload increases the risk of damage in transit.
• An “Air Ride” trailer should be used (Air Ride is an improved suspension that mitigates shock and vibration, which is a potential source of damage)
• The package must be protected from weather (tarped; since it will not fit inside a standard trailer)
• Price should include all necessary permits
