STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements The new laboratory facility we are building will deliver a thermal-vacuum environment for testing smallsat/instrument payloads for use in the ultraviolet and will also carry an optical stimulus package. The chamber serves as the foundational element for this facility and is needed to provide the physical environment to enable test-as-you-fly.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The chamber selected has the following properties:

Turnkey solution to control vacuum and thermal environment across typical orbital temperatures of -150 celcius to +150 celcius and down to vacuum levels typical of space, ~1e-6 Torr.

Multiple access ports (>8) to allow control of hardware in the chamber as well as the input of controlled light from a monochromator, and including burst disks for safety

Thermal shroud control on all faces including the door Thermal control of platen for optical bench Ample size to accommodate payloads up to and including fully integrated smallsats and instruments from larger missions – chamber interior size of at least 28x28x28” with thermal shroud enclosure interior to that.

3. Place of Performance

Paul Scowen facility NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, MD

4. Period of Performance The chamber is expected to be delivered 24 weeks ARO – before the end of CY22, whereupon it will be integrated with the additional equipment to allow control of contamination and input optical stimulus signal. The facility is intended for use on multiple projects over the coming decade.
