Each door shall have a minimum access size of 36” x 36” for bodily and net access inside the tank. Each door shall have a minimum of two (2) heavy-duty SS hinges on the upstream side with bar-type latches on the downstream side. The rear hatch opening will be positioned to minimized distance to the rear of the vehicle and in consideration of routine fish loading from the rear. Doors shall be constructed so each will have the capability of folding back into the full open position to be no more than 3” from the top of the tank. An inside handle of tube construction shall be installed on the lid to allow it to be closed from the full open position. Lid gaskets shall be heat molded directly to the lids as specified.
Weight of the tank system, when fully loaded with fish, water, gas cylinders and personnel, shall not exceed the maximum legal gross weight of the truck.
All tank welding shall be to industry standards and completed in a manner that does not damage the extruded foam insulation or cause harm to live fish. Sharp edges or welds should not exist in areas where fish or human operators can make contact. Tank surfaces and welded joints should be smooth to the touch and substantially free of splatter.
Fish Discharge System:
Bottom of the tank shall be sloped from three sides towards a 16” x 12” square-to-round transition outlet. One (1) 12” discharge valve shall be a watertight shutoff knife gate valve with the handle recessed. Access panels to the 12” valve shall be removable to allow maintenance and repair without removing more skin from the outside of the tank than is necessary to access and replace / service the valve. Valve shall have ring lock couplers for a drop hose coupling and be able to attach the drop hose to additional discharge hoses as needed.
The tempering lines will be constructed of 2.5” stainless steel pipe. Tempering lines will allow for the flooding and draining of the entire tank. Inlet and outlet of drain and fill lines will be fitted with 3” Banjo brand ball valves with 3” female and male camloc couplers, respectively, whereby valves will be easily accessible.
Under tank storage release pipe compartments shall be constructed to hold two (2) 20’ x 6’ diameter pipes beside the main tank discharge tube.
Sight glasses, one on each end of the tank (two (2) total), shall have a brass shutoff valve. One (1) train valve with a 5/8” OD plexiglass tubes shall be installed on the driver’s side of the tank to ensure it’s easily reachable and drainable.
Furnish and install a transition reducer fitting from 12” ring lock to 6” male camloc, composed of stainless steel or aluminum. Transition fitting will have ease of fit/removal and smooth inner surfaces with a slope suitable for offloading of juvenile fish (likely to be eccentric) when parked on level ground. Provide 12-inch watertight ring lock cap and snap ring.
Insulation:
Entire tank and door double-wall compartments are to be tightly fitted with a minimum 1.5” thickness foam insulation. Doors and exterior of the tank shall be water tight as to prevent water from entering insulation area.
All valves, hoses and couplers shall be installed to drain completely when in the full open position to prevent damage to unit during ambient temperatures below freezing.
Oxygen System:
Oxygen distribution lines shall run from three (3) oxygen tanks, located horizontally in a storage rack on the front deck, to fit “K” and “T” bottles of compressed gas with adequate hold-downs installed to secure sagely to the deck.
All lines shall be housed in an access chase to protect from damage and allow easy inspection for leaks and repairs.
Storage rack shall be constructed so bottles are stacked three high, one over the other, with each bottle held securely in its own compartment. System shall include four (4) flow meters (1/4 to 7 LPM display), two (2) Point FourTM
MBD Air Diffusers (Part No. 1DMBDC600, from Pentair Aquatics) per compartment, and one (1) regulator for the entire oxygen system. Flow meters shall be clearly visible from the driver’s side mirror. Regulator shall be clearly visible from the passenger’s side rearview mirror.
Lines shall be routed and secured from the flowmeters to two (2) 24” Point FourTM Solid Bar Air Diffuser setups for each of the compartments (4 total). Oxygen plumbing shall be at least Schedule 40. Lines inside the tank shall be placed in recessed channels with cover plates to protect from damage when releasing adult fish. Channels shall be laid out to self-drain when tanks are emptied.
Install a 1" orifice centered in the upper 3/4 of the tank on the external tank wall facing the truck cab. Orifice should have 1" female NPT threads to receive a 1" NPT male plug. Orifice should accommodate later installation of a dissolved oxygen metering probe or other monitoring device by owner.
Electrical:
System shall include four (4) watertight type switches housed in watertight fixtures. All wiring shall be placed in RMC, be secured and be shielded. There shall be one switch per aerator and power source from the battery to aerators with 60A breakers to be installed in the battery box. All wiring shall be a minimum of 6 AWG. Switches shall be of adequate construction to supply continuous power to the aerators (i.e. 10A per unit with 20A or adequate auto-reset breaker).
Install on the oxygen manifold, one (1) pressure switch, N/C. Switch shall be wired in the cab to a red buzz / light to provide both a visual and audible warning to the driver of a low-flow or lack of sufficient oxygen pressure in the manifold. System shall include a manual toggle cutout switch to disable the system when not in use.
Install on each aerator, an 18 AWG wire from the downstream side of the aerator switch, to the cab, to a green buzz / light to show operation of the aerator for each compartment to provide both a visual and audible warning to the driver when the system fails and visual “on” light when in normal running mode.
