STATEMENT OF WORK

X-ray Source June 6th, 2022

PR: ___4200804993

Background The Athena X‐ray Integral Field Unit (X‐IFU) calibration team requires a high‐flux, large spot‐ size x‐ray source to build 4.5‐12 keV channel‐cut crystal monochromators. We require a complete source that includes x‐ray tubes with large spots and appropriate tube housings that provide x‐ray shielding, water cooling, and high voltage electrical connections.

Scope The Government expects to take delivery of the X-ray source that fulfills the specifications listed below.

Requirements:

We need to purchase an X-ray source, as depicted in the pictures below, that meet all of our project requirements.

The required source has:

Ceramic / metal body x-ray tube construction Power rating: 3000 Watts max (anode target dependent) Maximum kV: 60 Maximum mA: 55 (anode target dependent) Polarity: negative (grounded anode) Duty cycle: continuous Cooling: water, 3.5 L/min X-ray exit window: beryllium, 0.25 mm thick Focus: fine, long-fine, normal, and broad Target angle: 0º (6º takeoff angle) Overall tube dimensions: 60 mm diameter, 193 mm length

Short and long anode styles Must include:

The following anodes: Ti, Cr, Fe, Co, Cu, Au Tube housing that must have a clear aperture of greater than 12 mm x 2 mm to allow view of full X-ray emission.

Shutter assembly

2.3 kW Water to Air recirculating chiller Water hoses, filters, and connectors 60 mm high voltage cable Safety beacon light (2 light stack – X-ray On, shutter Open) System Controller (controller of interlock, safety beacon, shutter, high voltage control).

TRTL Certification.

60 kV/50 mA X-ray Tube Power Supply

Deliverables or Delivery Schedule

Six anodes: Ti, Cr, Fe, Co, Cu, Au The tube housing that must have a clear aperture of greater than 12 mm x 2 mm to allow view of full X-ray emission.
