At The Vieques National Wildlife Refuge Vieques, Puerto Rico July 7, 2020

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Vieques National Wildlife Refuge is soliciting bids for the repairs of the former Navy facilities at the Camp Garcia area. This consists of three small buildings.

BACKGROUND

During Hurricane Maria, these facilities at the Vieques NWR were in use by NAVFAC (US Navy). The facilities suffered some damage and the US Navy vacated the facilities to another area within the Vieques NWR. As part of the Service continued work to connect people with nature; these facilities are to be used by the wildlife refuge YCC group and by local NGOs (Non-Government Organizations) for various youth conservation interpretation, outreach, environmental education and summer camp programs. Rainwater penetrated some of the walls and floors that now require repairs. The roof will be treated and resealed to prevent this type of damage in the future. These repairs will improve readiness status and refuge operations. With these repairs, operational, safety and environmental regulations will be updated.
