Statement of Work (SOW) Project: Grains composition analysis for soybean, corn, and cotton: physiological and genetic evaluation

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Scope of Work:

The project deals with physiological and genetic evaluation of cultivars and germplasm growing under the Southeast Area, and use this evaluation to selection the right varieties/genotypes that is tolerant, drought, and diseases under the southeast area. The objective of the research is to provide stakeholders, especially soybean growers, with information about the interaction between row-crops, especially soybean, and their environments to overcome heat, drought, and disease pressure. The vendor shall provide one NIR instrument per the description in section 3.

2.0 Background:

The main goal here is to purchase a Near-Infrared instrument such as NIRS DS3-Foss System to use it for grain composition analysis. This instrument will be installed in the Physiology lab in Crop Genetics Research Unit, Stoneville, MS. The instrument requires a couple of electrical outlets, a laboratory counter, and access to the internet. All these requirements are available in this lab.

CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS

3.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks:

The NIR instrument should have an optical performance across the full NIR wavelength range (from 850 to 2500 nm)

-NIR should measure, right away, soybean seed protein, oil, fatty acids (palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, and linolenic), sugars (glucose, fructose, sucrose, raffinose, and stachyose)

-NIR should measure corn protein, oil/fat, and starch

-NIR should measure cotton protein and oil.

-NIR has a potential to measure amino acids in soybean in the future by creating calibration equation based on wet chemistry and NIR spectra.

-The vendor should provide a warranty for the instrument and service agreement in the future to maintain the instrument.

-The vendor should provide a high quality customer service and high quality service agreement for maintaining the instrument.

4.0 Government Furnished:

There is no furnished support required for this instrument. The instrument will be installed in room 408, fourth floor, building one, USDA-ARS, Stoneville, MS. Access to the facility during normal business operations (Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM) is provided. Access during federal holidays is restricted.
