The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, US Sheep Experiment Station has a need to purchase a total of 85 tons of Barley Straw delivered to the headquarters facility, 6 miles north of Dubois, Idaho and 50 tons of Barley Straw delivered to the Mud Lake feedlot.

LOCATION: U. S. Sheep Experiment Station, MUD LAKE Facility, 2 Mile West of Mud Lake, Idaho on Highway 33.

LOCATION: U. S. Sheep Experiment Station, Headquarters Facility, Dubois, ID From Dubois, ID: 4 miles North on Interstate 15; take Exit 172 and proceed 2 miles East

Bale Size: Square Bale, 4ft x 4ft x 8ft, tied with twine (commonly referred to as a 1-ton bale)

QUALITY

2025 Growing season only will be accepted.
Straw should be free from mold, excessive weeds, and other foreign matter (e.g., wire, bulk twine, sand, metal, tires, garbage, etc.).

Prior to bid acceptance, the proposed straw may be inspected by USDA/ARS personnel. The average of the stacks inspected will be used to determine if straw meets the specifications.

DELIVERY

Straw must be delivered, unloaded and stacked four bales high on designated storage pads at each location. The Contractor will be required to furnish all the necessary equipment required to complete this job.

Delivery can begin August 18, 2025, and must be completed by September 25, 2025

Deliveries will be accepted from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday and should be coordinated with the USDA/ARS 24 to 72 hours in advance. NO DELIVERIES AFTER 4:30 PM.

Deliveries are subject to inspection by USDA/ARS personnel, and straw not meeting the specifications will be refused; it will be the responsibility of the producer to remove refused straw.

A weigh slip from a certified scale must accompany each delivery. Weigh slips must show tare and gross weight.

Quantity variance may be up to 3% less than the amount ordered. The contractor is responsible for removing any amounts that exceed the amount ordered.
