Statement of Work
What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a GPS or mobile device to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world.
What is a GeoTour?
A GeoTour is a combination of geocaching and traveling. GeoTours highlight the best of a specific area or destination.
Project:
The Bureau of Land Management, Lakeview District, would like to partner with geocaching to create a GeoTour along the Christmas Valley Back Country By Way. The Christmas Valley Back Country By Way is 102 miles and includes 10 different designated areas including the Christmas Valley Sand Dunes and Crack in the Ground. The District purposes places no less than 15 geocaches at different location throughout the By Way.
Purpose:
The GeoTour is designed to highlight a remote and vast area of lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management. In addition to directing visitors to specific or unique sites, a geocache helps them know the best places to park and access the area. Also, visitors can log (electronically and physically) that they visited the location allowing recreation to track visitor usage. Visitors are also able to write notes, this gives them and us a chance to interact.
Scope of Work:
To set up the GeoTour, I will need to identify the location of the cache sites and get GPS coordinates. I will then coordinate with the geocaching point of contact to create our GeoTour.
Schedule:
I would like to have this GeoTour launched before May 1, 2021. May 3 is the 21 anniversary of Geocaching.
