Statement of Requirements: High-Speed Mid-Wave Infrared Camera

I. Background

Chemical transformations are an enormous share of the economy, with a critical presence in the petrochemical, specialty materials and pharmaceutical sectors. In 2018, the global top 50 chemical companies reported nearly $1 trillion in chemical revenue [A.H. Tullo, Chem. Eng.

News (ACS) 97(30), 30 (2019)]. The molecular environments where these chemical transformations take place are often complicated, with a myriad of reactants and intermediate species that compete with desired reaction pathways and chemical outcomes. The realization of unambiguous, simultaneous and quantitative observations of all the species comprising a chemical transformation in real time is a massive measurement challenge, best undertaken by

NIST.

The Optical Measurements Group will develop groundbreaking spectroscopic tools to monitor energy exchange during chemical transformations at the quantum level, thus revealing mechanisms for improved process controls and providing stringent tests of fundamental quantum chemistry theories. NIST will build an infrared spectrometer based on a comb-spectroscopy platform with a 100-fold improvement in spectral throughput to replace traditional indiscriminate tools. The result will be tools with unprecedented optical throughput to elucidate chemical reactivity and an ability to unlock complex chemistries in plasmas, at interfaces and for surface-catalyzed reactions. To achieve these objectives, a High-Speed Mid-Wave Infrared Camera is required.

II. Minimum Specifications

NIST seeks to procure quantity one (1) High-Speed Mid-Wave Infrared Camera that meets or exceeds the following specifications:

Hardware

• Camera shall operate within the entire wavelength range of 1.5 microns to 5 microns

• Camera shall have a full frame rate of greater than or equal to 3 kilohertz (kHz)

• Camera shall support sub-windowing frame rates of greater than or equal to 50 kHz

• Camera shall have a well capacity of greater than or equal to 3 million electrons

• Camera shall have a noise equivalent temperature difference (NETD) of less than or equal to 25 millikelvin (mK)

• Camera shall have a minimum dynamic range (vertical resolution) of 16 bits

• Camera shall have a pixel pitch of less than or equal to 30 microns

• Camera array shall have a width of greater than or equal to 320 pixels

• Camera array shall have a height of greater than or equal to 256 pixels

• Camera shall have a removable objective lens with a focal length of greater than or equal to 25 mm and less than or equal to 26 mm

• Camera objective lens shall have broadband transmission over the entire wavelength range of 1.5 microns to 5 microns

• Camera shall have a filter wheel with a minimum of 4 positions that each accommodate

25.4-millimeter (mm) diameter optics (optics not to be included by contractor)

• Camera shall have greater than or equal to 32 gigabytes of internal memory

• Camera shall have a trigger/sync input and output connectors

• Camera shall have a lock-in input connector

• Camera control and data transfer shall be available through both GigE and Camera Link

Accessories

• Camera shall be delivered with a Camera Link image acquisition card, or frame grabber, with PCIe interface. Camera shall be operable and controllable with full Camera Link at a distance of 5 m.

• Camera shall be delivered with a software development kit to enable control and acquisition by MATHLAB and PYTHON programming environments.

• Camera shall have power supply and cables for operation with standard US wall outlets

(110 V to 120 V, 60 Hz).

III. Delivery

Delivery shall be FOB DESTINATION and shall occur within ninety (90) calendar days after award of this requirement. However, due to current access restrictions, delivery shall not take place until the contractor coordinates with the designated Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) and

Contracting Officer (CO).

Prior to shipment, the Contractor must ensure NISTs campus is open and accepting deliveries. If access restrictions to the campus impact delivery schedules, a modification may be executed by the CO to establish an extended delivery timeframe.
