Statement of Need For 60 MDG/SGGX (Hemodialysis) Description: The Joint VA/DoD Hemodialysis/Nephrology Unit requires the replacement of six (6) portable Reverse Osmosis (RO) units. Currently, one of six (6) units is operational with no back-up availability. An RO unit is intended for use with hemodialysis systems to remove organic and inorganic substances and microbial contaminants from the water used for treating hemodialysis patients or related therapies. Functional machines allow our staff to provide emergent/urgent hemodialysis treatments for patients in the Intensive Care, Inpatient, COVID and Chronic unit (Case-by-case basis, example-Central RO non-functionable). A portable RO unit treats city water are an essential piece of equipment for acute treatments. Without functioning portable RO units, acute hemodialysis treatments will not be able to be performed, patients requiring acute services will be required to be diverted to civilian facilities emergently resulting in delays of treatment, further damage to internal organs and possibly death. This is a “brand name or equal” request.
