STATEMENT OF NEED
Industrial Plate Mount Mixers
BACKGROUND / SCOPE / MISSION:
The Milford Laboratory is the new home of the Northeast Oyster Breeding Center, a joint program between the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries. The program will look into the breeding of oysters from spawn through spat using several types of systems, CUDLS, Downwellers and Upwellers. The animals will be fed in these systems by mixing known concentrations of algae into the seawater running through each system. The mixture must be continuously mixed to assure a homogeneous solution.
INTENDED USE / PURPOSE:
The Government is building new seawater systems for the Northeast Oyster Breeding Center being located at the Milford Laboratory. In order to provide a homogeneous food source the seawater / algae mixture must be continuously mixed. An industrial mixer that operates with a large propeller at low speeds is required to prevent damage to the algae. The seawater / algae will be used as both flow through systems, once through, and re-circulating systems where the mixture is re- used with additional algae to make up the amount eaten. A plate mount mixer is required due to the design parameters the Government is using. As such, the mixers will be used in poly type tanks and supported by an external frame.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL SALIENT FEATURES:
Contractor shall three (3) portable entry plate mounted mixers. The Mixers shall meet and/or exceed the following:
Speed: ⅓ HP variable speed (cannot be more or less than 1/3 HP)
Impeller Diameter: 4” Impeller Type: Propeller - replaced with other sizes Motor Type: TEFC - mounted to a 12” x 12” plate Mount: Plate - 12” x 12” Motor Voltage: 120V RPM: 175-1750 rpm (speed controller) - shall be able to go slow (e.g. 175 RPM) Shaft Length: 44” Shaft Attachment: Coupler - The shaft shall connect to the motor by a coupler, not a chuck Shaft Material: 316 SS
The mixers must be 1/3 HP with at least a 4" propeller type impeller that can be replaced with other sizes. The motor should be of TEFC type and be mounted to a 12" x 12" plate. The motor voltage will be 120V with a speed controller with a range of 175-1750 RPM. The shaft shall connect to the motor by a coupler, not a chuck and be constructed with 316 stainless steel.
