Radar Airfield and Weather Systems Test Equipment (RAWS)
16 May 2025
1. Requirement:
The acquisition of two VIAVI CX300 Communication Service Monitors, each equipped with CM300/350 radio test modules, is critical to directly supporting MacDill Air Force Base's vital flying mission. This equipment directly impacts the operational readiness of key command and control assets, ensuring the success of daily flight operations that directly support 2 Combatant Command Headquarters and an Army helicopter support element stationed at MacDill AFB.
Specifically, the VIAVI CX300 units enable the base's technicians to thoroughly test, troubleshoot, and maintain the essential infrastructure upon which air operations depend on. This includes:
• Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Command Post Radios: The ability to reliably communicate is paramount. The CX300 enables in-depth analysis and maintenance of the base's radio systems, ensuring clear communication between air traffic controllers, command staff, and aircraft.
• Navigational Aids: Precise navigation is crucial for safe and efficient air travel. The CX300 facilitates the maintenance and certification of vital navigational aids, such as Instrument Landing System (ILS) components (Glideslope, Localizer) and Tactical Air Navigation Systems (TACAN), ensuring pilots have accurate and reliable guidance during all phases of flight, including instrument approaches in adverse weather conditions.
• Radar, Airfield, and Weather Systems (RAWS): The CX300 kits are essential for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and sustainment of all the above-mentioned systems. By providing comprehensive diagnostic capabilities, the equipment empowers the RAWS team to identify and resolve potential issues proactively, minimizing downtime and maximizing the operational availability of these critical assets.
Ultimately, these VIAVI CX300 systems and their accompanying modules are not simply test equipment; they are force multipliers that enhance the reliability and safety of MacDill AFB's flying operations, ensuring the base can consistently meet the demanding needs of its supported organizations.
