STATEMENT OF NEED

Design and Furnish 8 T-Slot Extruded Aluminum Aquarium Stands

PURPOSE: To procure the design and delivery of 8 aquarium stands made from the modular brand name or equal to T-slot extruded aluminum framing system which will be assembled by the Government after delivery.

SCOPE OR MISSION: The contractor shall design and furnish eight (8) aquarium stands that are constructed from modular brand name or equal to T-slot extruded aluminum framing system. All parts, materials, labor, design, and shipping shall be included.

BACKGROUND: NCCOS Charleston Laboratory is undergoing integration of their operations from the

CCEHBR building, the coral culture facility (Bldg. 600) and Ecotoxicology (Bldg 500) into the Hollings

Marine Laboratory. This procurement is to support the relocation of the coral specimens into HML F132.

The integration of the coral holdings requires a series of uniform-sized aquarium systems to maximize the reduced space allocation. The aluminum T-Slot stands will be used to hold custom aquaria system tanks.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS/SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS: All stands must be made from at least

45mm x 45mm and/or 45mm x 90mm T-slotted aluminum extruded framing material. All stands must come with end caps, self-leveling feet capable of withstanding stated loads for each stand (see below), and HDPE tops for each layer of shelving. The contractor shall provide the un-assembled stands below

(quantity of each in parentheses) to include all parts required for assembly which meet the following requirements:

• (quantity: 4) 31.5” W x 72” L x 36” tall – 3000 lb capacity top shelf and 1000 lb capacity lower shelf weight capacity pre-safety factor (see Figure 1. for basic “shell” concept, but more crossbeams, corner bracing and/or stand legs may be necessary to achieve stated weight capacities).

• (quantity: 2) 24” W x 72” L x 36” tall – 2500 lb capacity top shelf and 1000 lb capacity lower shelf weight capacity pre-safety factor (see Figure 2. for basic “shell” concept, but more crossbeams, corner bracing and/or stand legs may be necessary to achieve stated weight capacities).

• (quantity: 1) 24” W x 60” L x 36 tall- 2000 lb capacity top shelf and 1000 lb capacity lower shelf weight capacity pre-safety factor (see Figure 3. for basic “shell” concept, but more crossbeams, corner bracing and/or stand legs may be necessary to achieve stated weight capacities).

• (quantity: 1) modular shelving unit (each shelf can be moved up or down) 24” wide x 9.5’ long x

5'3" tall with 1000 lb capacity weight capacity for each shelf (6 shelves total, see Figure 4. for basic “shell” concept, but more crossbeams, corner bracing and/or stand legs may be necessary to achieve stated weight capacities)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The contractor shall provide the Government Points of Contact with their design of the T-Slot stands for review within 7 days of contract award for the Government’s review and approval of the design. The designs shall be submitted via email.

DELIVERY SCHEDULE: All parts that make up the 8 aquarium stands shall be delivered within 21 days from receipt of NOAA’s approval of the Contractor’s design.

DELIVER TO: Materials shall be delivered to the following address between 8am and 4 pm Eastern local time, Monday through Friday:

NOAA/NCCOS Charleston Laboratory
