Shenandoah National Park requires a total of 103 picnic tables, 2 handicapped accessible picnic tables, 103 fire rings, and 2 handicapped accessible fire rings that meet the following specifications:
SPECIFICATIONS (2-3/8” O.D. Pipe) Overall size to be 59-1/4” wide x 29” high x 6’ (or 8’) long. Seat height above ground to be 17”. Tabletop width to be 29”. Picnic table leg frame shall be fabricated from 2-3/8” O.D. iron pipe and shall be electrically welded into a one piece end frame. Frame shall be walk-thru design. All bends are to be on a 4-13/16” inside radius. No pipe or metal parts shall extend past the outside edge of the seat. All table top and seat mounting brackets shall be a 6” 7 gauge steel plate bent at 90 degrees to from a 4” x 2” angle. All table top and seat mounting brackets shall be precision punched. For safety, all mounting brackets shall be rounded to a 1-1/2” radius on all corners of surfaces in a vertical plane. Cross braces shall consist of 1- 5/16” O.D. galvanized iron pipe with ends flattened, punched and rounded to 1-1/2 radius. One 1-1/2” x ½” x 1/8” x 26-1/2” center channel shall be mechanically attached to the bottom side of table top to prevent warping of wood. Center channel shall have a 2” x 1” 7 gauge tab extending downward such that cross braces may be mechanically fastened to center channel, thus providing overall strength and rigidity. Leg end frame and center channel finish shall be hot-dipped galvanized per ASTM A120 after fabrication covering all welds, cut ends, punched holes, etc. Two ½” diameter drain holes shall be drilled in the bottom of each end frame. Four 5/8” diameter holes shall be punched in the angle iron at various locations where the pipe frame attaches. These holes shall be placed to allow the galvanizing to flow through and coat all surfaces inside and out. Three 3/8” – 16 N.C. x 1” machine bolts with locknuts washers shall be used in attaching braces with leg frames as well as with the center channel. All mechanical fasteners shall be zinc plated for prevention of rust and corrosion.
Vinyl Clad Top and Seats Vinyl clad tables shall be fabricated from 13 gauge precision punched flat sheet steel. To eliminate sharp corners all edges shall be rolled to a 2” diameter. For extra rigidity, all table tops and seats shall have an 11 gauge steel bracing welded to the underside. Table top and seats shall have a 1/8” thick oven-cured poly-vinyl-chloride coating. Available in 6’ Handicapped Picnic Tables Accessible Picnic Tables must feature a non-tip, walk through designs. Tabletop should extend 2 ft. beyond the seats on one end. The extended top is should be supported by a special diagonal brace and steel channel. The table configuration must meet or exceed current ADA guidelines for wheelchair access to picnic tables. Table must have a minim height of 30”and a 18” seat height. These tables should match the specifications provided above and include Handicapped table specifications.
SPECIFICATIONS (Adjustable Fire Ring and Grill) Campfire ring shall be fabricated from 7 gauge steel 6” high, 31” wide and 34” in length. For added strength, ring shall be cross braced with 1-1/4 x 1-1/4 x 3/16 angle iron. Cooking grate shall be fabricated from ½” steel bars 1-1/8” on centers and measuring 19” x 15” (285 square inches) and electrically welded to 5/8” steel bars having non-conducive spring grips attached such that grate may be adjusted to four different positions from 9” to 14” above fire bed. At all positions, grate shall be supported symmetrically in four locations by two 3/16” thick grate support panels. These panels shall have a 90 degree vertical bend which adds strength and rigidity to the complete unit as well as to provide a heat shield for grate handles. Each unit shall include two anti-theft tie down staples fabricated from ½” steel bars, 33” in length and bent in “U” shape. These ties down staples shall allow entire unit to be hinged up for easy ash removal, but shall not allow unit to be stolen. For safety, all exposed corners shall be rounded to a 1-1/2” radius. Finish shall be non-toxic, electro-statically applied dry powder. The accessible campfire ring should have a flat rear panel so wheelchairs can have closer access to the cooking grate and adjustment handles. It needs to have at least a 300 sq. inch cooking grate that adjusts to 4 levels between 19" and 24" above the ground. The fire ring design should allow the grate to be adjusted one side at a time, using only one hand; without tight grasping, pinching or twisting of the wrist; and does not exceed 10 lbs. to lift.
The fire ring is rolled using 3/16" thick steel, with 1" formed flange for strength and safety. The adjustment panels should be made from 3/16" steel, and also serve as heat shields for the grate handles. The 300 sq. inch cooking grate should be welded together using 5/8" dia. handle/support bars and 1/2" dia. grate bars, and includes handle grips of 1/8" x 1/2" coiled steel. All grate bars are to be welded on both sides. The finish is high temp non-toxic black enamel paint.
