About this file

This document is a Sources Sought Synopsis (SSS) for the C-5 Main Landing Gear Hydraulic Brake Assembly, a market research document issued by the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Air Force Sustainment Center. The government seeks to identify potential sources with expertise to overhaul hydraulic brake assemblies (NSN 3040-01-236-5742, PN: 42357-30) for USAF aircraft. The contract is anticipated to be a Requirements Type Contract with a 10-year period of performance, consisting of a one-year basic period, four one-year ordering periods, and five one-year options, with a projected quantity of 56 units per ordering period.

Potential contractors must complete a detailed Contractor Capability Survey by July 17, 2025, which includes providing business information, describing company capabilities, and answering questions about technical expertise, overhaul processes, and commerciality. The solicitation encourages participation from both large and small businesses, with no predetermined set-aside decision. Small businesses are specifically invited to demonstrate their capabilities, including potential teaming arrangements or joint ventures. Respondents are advised that participation in this market survey does not guarantee future contract awards, and the government will not reimburse expenses associated with the survey.

PURPOSE/DESCRIPTION

The Government is conducting market research to identify potential sources that possess the expertise, capabilities, and experience to meet qualification requirements for the overhaul of C-5 Main Landing Gear Hydraulic Brake Assembly: NSN 3040-01-236-5742UC/PN:42357-30 for USAF aircrafts. This overhaul effort will utilize a Requirements Type Contract. Contract period of performance is anticipated to be ten (10) years. It is anticipated to consist of a one (1) year basic period and four (4) one (1) year ordering periods followed by five (1) one-year options.

The projected quantity of 56ea each ordering period is a best estimate given current forecasting measures.

These brake assemblies are part of the Main Landing Gear and Door Actuation Assembly. The hydraulic brake is spring-released and is engaged during emergency extension by applying hydraulic pressure. When sufficient hydraulic pressure is applied the piston is actuated and clamps the brake plates which lock the shaft. The brake assemblies should be overhauled IAW with T.O 16A1-17-4-3 and the attached drawings.
