About this file
This is a Sole Source Justification document from the Department of the Air Force, Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex at Tinker Air Force Base, dated 13 March 2026, requesting authorization to procure Trumpf laser replacement parts from a single source.
The 76th CMXG requires specific original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts for their primary Trumpf laser system, including Y and Z axis cables, motors, and a drive power supply. The Trumpf laser system represents a critical asset responsible for a significant portion of the shop's workload, and the inability to obtain these parts would render the $2 million equipment inoperable. Trumpf Inc., located at 111 Hyde RD, Farmington, CT 06032 (CAGE Code 65826, Large Business), is identified as the sole source capable of satisfying these requirements, as the company owns the manufacturing rights and is unwilling to sell to third parties. Market research was conducted using DSBS and SAM databases under NAICS Code 333517 and Federal Supply Code 3438, including a review of small business categories (8(a), HUBZone, Service-Disabled Veteran Owned, and Women Owned). A Request for Information was sent to three potential vendors; only ICON Machine Tool Inc. responded, confirming that the request would need to go directly to Trumpf Inc. as the OEM. The justification concludes that sole source procurement is the only reasonably available option under FAR 13.101(b), with a commitment to monitor the market for future competition opportunities.

Company name: Trumpf Inc.

4. Market research was performed reviewing Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS) and System for Award Management (SAM) databases using North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code (333517) looking for companies that could provide Trumpf Laser Parts under Federal Supply Code (FSC 3438). A review of small businesses to include 8(a), HUBZone, Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Business, and Women Owned Small Business was conducted in search of a company that could provide Trumpf Laser Parts. A Request For Information (RFI) was sent to three potential vendors. Of those, only one responded (ICON MACHINE TOOL, INC) via phone, unable to provide due to the parts being spare parts and that the request would go directly to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Trumpf Inc. Trumpf Inc. noted that Trumpf owns the rights and is unwilling to sell them. In addition, one (1) Rough Order Magnitude (ROM) was included with the package from the customer. In review, there is one source that can satisfy this commodity for this acquisition.
5. The Government will continue to monitor the market for future purchases to see if competition can be opened at that time.
6. I have determined, in accordance with FAR Overhaul 13.101(b) that the circumstances of this contract action deem only a sole source is reasonably available.
