Brief Description of Supplies/ Services required and the intended use/Estimated Amount: This is a request to purchase PortaCount Model 8048-T with tablet to be u ed by the Safety Section of the Engineering Service at Nashville Campus. will provide timely and quality service to customers by decreasing the time required and increasing accuracy to ensure proper fit of all respirators and masks, including N-95 masks. This procurement is estimated at
Unique characteristics that limit availability to only one source, with the reason no other supplies or services can be used: The Nashville Campus of the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System Veterans Affairs Medical Center has to be able to conduct fit testing on a wide range of respirators, and measure to certain parameters. The TSI PortaCount Model 8048-T (with tablet) is required in order to allow TVH Safety Service to test personnel rapidly and accurately COVID-19 pandemic other emergency response . While the AccuTec 9000PRO was submitted for evaluation, it does not meet the needs of the TVHS Safety Service for the following reasons: it does not support the TSI Software that stores all fit testing data, which is already in use;
current adapters for the respirators would not fit; the software has not been approved for VA use; it uses a stylus pen which would be easily lost instead of an onscreen keyboard; it requires the use of a flash drive, which is prohibited; and it does not appear to be able to be used in stand-alone mode which is necessary as the units have to be able to be used anywhere on campus. The TSI PortaCount Model 8048-T is the only model of respiratory fit testing system that will meet all TVHS requirements as well as meeting requirements for OSHA, ANSI, CSA, and ISO. In addition, this model can complete automatic fit testing on full-face and half-face respirators as well as being able to complete fit testing for N-95 masks, which is critical. Furthermore, the 8048-T system is the only automatic system that can test all respirators used at TVHS in under 2.5 minutes while also providing real-time feedback and measurement results. The system also provides a software and database combination that will allow TVHS Safety Service to record and save all testing results to stay in compliance with documentation. The PortaCount Model 8048-T is compatible with the respirators currently in use at the facility for respiratory protection. No other unit meets all of the needs of TVH Safety Service.
Lastly, TVHS is already in possession of TSI PortaCount Model 8048-T and no additional training will be needed, providing monetary savings.
