2. Other facts supporting sole source procurement:
a. What can this product/service do that other products/services cannot do?
The
DNASTAR Lasergene Suite 17 site license maintenance renewal ensures that DDID scientists have access to the latest version of this particular genomic analysis software. The Suite includes Lasergene Molecular Biology, Lasergene Protein, and Lasergene Genomics and is used by laboratorians who work with DNA, RNA, or protein sequences. It is deployed by the OCIO Software Distribution Team and the Remote Access Services Team for CITGO. The site license also includes a commuter license, DNASTAR Navigator, which allows users to check out the software for 30 days while in travel status or temporary duty assignment. The maintenance licenses can only be procured from the software manufacturer, DNASTAR.
There are no resellers. There are other software products available at CDC
Rev. 5/14/19 to perform similar work but Lasergene is in use by over 100 CDC researchers on a monthly basis. Its ease of use and included plasmid mapping and protein structure prediction are few features which the other alternatives do not have.
b. What other products/services were considered and why did they not meet the need?
There are other software products available at CDC to perform similar work (CLCbio and Genius Pro), but Lasergene is in use by over 400 CDC researchers and includes plasmid mapping and protein structure prediction that the others do not. This site license allows usage throughout North American including Atlanta, GA, Anchorage, AK, Fort Collins, CO, and San Juan, PR.
