About this file

This document is a Description of Intended Single Source Purchase (PUR 7776) issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for 3D laser scanners. The agency seeks to acquire two FARO Focus Premium 3D Laser scanners for crime scene documentation, with the intent to document and digitally recreate crime scenes in 3D. The solicitation was posted on 05/21/2025 with a last day for receipt of information on 06/12/2025, and the contract term is set for two years. The procurement is specifically for forensic equipment and scanners to support the Investigations and Forensic Services division, which provides 24/7 on-call response for examining major crime scenes.

The estimated dollar amount for this single-source procurement is $180,000.00, with FARO Technologies, Inc. identified as the sole source vendor. The justification for single-source acquisition stems from the specialized nature of the FARO Focus Premium 3D Laser scanner, which is an upgrade to the current FARO S150 scanners used by FDLE. The agency notes that its existing software (Scene and Scene 2go) is only compatible with FARO scanners, and the FARO Free Style handheld laser scanner they currently use is exclusively compatible with FARO data. The procurement has been approved by the Chief of General Services and the Director of Forensic Services, with FARO Technologies recognized as the sole developer and manufacturer of these specific laser scanners.
