A. THE UNIT PACK SHALL PROVIDE PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROTECTION TOGETHER WITH A

PRESERVATIVE COATING.

B. CLEAN AND DRY ITEM BY ANY SUITABLE PROCESS BEFORE APPLICATION OF PACKAGING MATERIALS.

C. APPLY PRESERVATIVE TO ALL BARE METAL SURFACES.

D. SEAL ALL OPENINGS OF THE ADJUSTING LINK ASSEMBLY WITH CAPS/PLUGS OF THE APPROPRIATE

SIZE.

E. APPLY A SINGLE WRAP TO EACH END OF ADJUSTING LINK ASSEMBLY. SECURE WITH TAPE

ASTM D 5486, TY IV.

F. USE WOOD BLOCKING AND BRACING AS SHOWN ON PAGE 2.

G. APPLY BARRIER MATERIAL BETWEEN ALL SECTIONS OF THE ADJUSTING LINK THAT COME IN DIRECT

CONTACT WITH THE INTERIOR OF CONTAINER AND/OR BLOCKING/BRACING.

H. CONTAINER IS CONSTRUCTED OF ALL 1 INCH THICK NOMINAL LUMBER.

J. TOP OF CONTAINER SHALL BE SECURED TO SIDES AND ENDS WITH WOOD SCREWS.

K. PACKING:

LEVEL A PACKING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED USING EITHER CLEATED-PLYWOOD BOXES, OVERSEAS TYPE, CONFORMING TO PPP-B-601 OR NAILED WOOD BOXES CONFORMING TO PPP-B-621, CLASS 2.

WHEN THE TOTAL QUANTITY TO BE SHIPPED TO THE SAME DESTINATION EXCEEDS 125 POUNDS, EXTERIOR PACKS WITHOUT SKIDS SHALL BE PALLETIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-HDBK-774.

L. IN ADDITION TO MIL-STD-129 MARKINGS, THE UNIT CONTAINER SHALL BE MARKED ON THE TOP AND ONE SIDE WITH MINIMUM 1/2 INCH BLACK LETTERS “REUSABLE CONTAINER, DO NOT DESTROY”. IN ADDITION, THE TOP SHALL BE MARKED “REMOVE SCREWS TO OPEN CONTAINER” USING MINIMUM 1/2

INCH HIGH BLACK LETTERS.
