SPMYM3-15-Q-3119: QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS AS OF 9/4/2015

1. The outer profile of the test weight is toleranced at +-.125”, except for the depth of the strap slot, which is toleranced at +-.0625. Is the slot depth dimension critical, or can the looser tolerance be applied to this dimension?

The looser tolerance can be applied to the slot depth dimension as well.

2. The drawings use a number of odd plate thicknesses. For example, the drawing for the 20kip weight calls out two top plates that total 5.875” thick, and two bottom plates totaling 5.125” thick. These are non-standard plate thicknesses and would require significant machining. Is using standard plate thicknesses acceptable as long as the overall bounding box and weight of the test weight are correct?

As noted on the drawings, any thickness or number of plates can be used to achieve the final dimensions/weight, so standard plate thicknesses are acceptable.

3. The drawings call out very heavy welds, ½” groove welds, which in many cases is much more weld than is required for strength. Is the desire to have ½” groove welds as drawn, or is the desire to have the welds designed as part of the engineering process?

If the welds deviate from the 1/2" groove welds shown in the drawings, we would like the new weld design to be a part of the engineering process.

4. Will the shipyard be able to offload the test weights from the flatbed trucks they’re delivered on, or would we need to make provisions for unloading the trucks ourselves.

We have forklifts available for off-loading of the weights. The vendor will be responsible for providing the delivery onto the shipyard with drivers capable of admittance.
