The bandsaw must meet electrical design standards per NFPA '79 with a single electrical source, include a work light compliant with NFPA 79 requirements, and feature front-mounted speed control allowing blade speed adjustment from the operator's control station. The machine requires IEC fused disconnect switches, magnetic motor starters with overload and low-voltage protection, and 24-volt DC control to all push buttons. Additional design specifications include cast iron band wheels with minimum 19" diameter, column and blade tilt capability up to 60° right and left of vertical, adjustable saw feed stops, and a work-holding vise with 18" maximum opening, 6" high by 12" wide jaws that can shift to either side of the blade.

The machine shall be equipped with a 21-gallon flood coolant system, preloaded carbide-faced guide blocks, and comprehensive lubrication systems. Electrical requirements specify 460 volts, 60 Hz, three-phase power. The procurement includes numerous options and accessories, including powered column tilt with locking system, remote push button station, digital tilt readout, laser line generator, and a complete material handling conveyor system with 15 feet on both loading and discharge sides. The bandsaw requires twenty (20) Eagle beak VTR blades (16'4" x 1.25" x 0.42", 3/6 tooth pitch). Table 1 specifies cutting capacities ranging from 18" x 28" vertical at 90° to 18" x 10" vertical at 60° left, with variable band speed of 50-450 fpm, a 5 H.P. blade drive motor, and 1,800 lbs table capacity. The equipment shall be shipped palletized to DLA Distribution Norfolk at Portsmouth Facility (Norfolk Naval Shipyard, 1 Beaty Street, Portsmouth, VA 23709), with the contractor providing two weeks' advance notification of delivery. Three complete technical manuals (including one PDF version) covering installation, operation, service, maintenance, and parts-listing must be provided, and inspection and acceptance shall be performed at destination by Code 983 Industrial Engineering Branch.
