About this file
This is an Additional Ordering Data document for MIL-DTL-1222J, a military specification covering studs, bolts, screws, and nuts for high-reliability applications. The document (6034C070) provides detailed acquisition requirements that must be specified when ordering fasteners under this specification. The example provided specifies Flat Head Socket Cap screws at 0.750"-10UNC-2A x 4.250" in Grade 500, with QQ-N-286G cadmium plating and additional treatments (CD ANL & AH), with nylocked self-locking elements per MIL-DTL-18240F.
The acquisition requirements section outlines mandatory specifications including part number, configuration, type, style, grade, condition, size, length, thread series, and class of fit. Additional requirements address heat treatment control, coating types and thickness specifications for internally and externally threaded fasteners, aluminum and titanium alloy coating procedures, thread cutting or grinding restrictions, bearing surface specifications, self-locking elements, and identification markings. The document also specifies reporting requirements for examination test results, chemical analysis, mechanical property tests, decarburization tests, and magnetic permeability tests, along with options for resubmittal of failed lots, retesting of mechanical tests, rework and resubmittal, nonstandard inspection procedures, and nondestructive testing. Packaging is specified as Commercial Packaging. Grade substitution options are provided for certain fastener grades (410/416/416Se, 462/464/482, 510/544, 655/661, and 670/675), all marked as "NA" (not applicable) in this instance.
