About this file
This is a Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) document issued by the 406 Supply Chain Management Squadron at Hill Air Force Base for a Ball Screw Assembly (Part Number 4G94002-111C, National Stock Number 1620-00-215-1607).
The document specifies military preservation and packaging requirements compliant with MIL-STD-2073-1 for both serviceable and unserviceable methods at protection level 20. Packaging must follow ASTM D6251 standards for closure at both Level A and Level B protection. Level A provides severe worldwide shipment, handling, and storage protection suitable for war reserve material, mobilization, strategic deployment, and deck loading. Level B packing is standard unless otherwise directed by the procuring country. The container specifications include gross dimensions of 4.805 cubic feet with a gross weight of 114 pounds and design fragility rating of 110. Containers measure 18 inches in length, width, and depth at Level A, with outer dimensions of 20 1/4 inches. Marking must comply with MIL-STD-129 and include the SPI number on container identification. All wooden packaging materials must be heat-treated to 56 degrees Centigrade (133 degrees Fahrenheit) for 30 minutes and constructed from debarked wood in compliance with International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM No. 15). The assembly includes specific internal components: blocks, block supports, cushioning, wrap, and tape, with detailed dimensional specifications and material requirements provided on the engineering drawings.
