About this file
This is a Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) document for military procurement, specifically for the packaging and preservation of ball screw assemblies. The document is classified for Department of Defense and U.S. DOD contractors only and applies to Part/Drawing Number 1650E412 (National Stock Number 1620-00-677-6681).
The SPI specifies preservation requirements using Military Standard MIL-STD-2073, with both serviceable and unserviceable methods rated as level 20. Cleaning and drying must follow IAW MIL-STD-2073 with MIL-PRF-23827 preservative application. Packaging configuration details Level A and Level B specifications, with gross cubic feet of 2.063 and weight of 56 pounds for both levels. Container dimensions for Level A are 78 1/2" length × 5 1/2" width × 5 1/2" depth, while Level B containers measure 81 1/2" × 7" × 6 1/4". The item weighs 34 pounds with a design fragility rating of 95 for both levels. Closure requirements mandate ASTM D6880 standards for both packaging levels. Marking follows IAW MIL-STD-129, requiring the SPI number on the identification side of the container. The document includes detailed technical drawings showing saddle placement approximately 18 inches from container edges and specifications for critical surface preservation, wrapping, and securing procedures. All wooden packaging materials must comply with International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM No. 15) requirements, utilizing debarked, heat-treated lumber (56°C/133°F for 30 minutes) with certification from an ALSC-recognized agency.
