About this file
This is a Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) document for a brake assembly aircraft item (Part Number 2609392-2, National Stock Number 1630-01-372-5807). The document provides detailed packaging specifications for military preservation following MIL-STD-2073, with serviceable and unserviceable methods both rated at level 10.
The packaging requires two levels of protection: Level A and Level B. Both levels specify ASTM D6251 (MDD) materials with identical gross cubic footage (6.302 cu ft) and design fragility rating (110). Container dimensions for both levels measure 20 inches length by 20 inches width by 17 inches depth for the center identification location, and 22 inches by 22 inches by 22½ inches for the center double wall location. The item weighs 132 pounds and has specific dimensional requirements of 24 inches by 18 inches by 15 inches. Packaging components include straps, blockings, masking tape, wrapping, cushioning, and skids with detailed specifications referencing ASTM standards (D3953, D4727, D6123, D6199) and military specifications. Markings must comply with MIL-STD-129, including the SPI number on the identification site of the container. The container is reusable and must not be destroyed. Cleaning and drying follows MIL-STD-2073 with no preservative required. A critical revision note (D, dated 14300) indicates removal of container requirements from bill of materials and changes to blocking requirements. All wooden packaging materials must comply with International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM No. 15), utilizing debarked, heat-treated wood certified by an accredited agency recognized by the American Lumber Standards Committee.
