About this file

This is a Request for Quote for retaining wall monitoring services issued by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). The project involves continuous monitoring of lateral movement and tilt on retaining walls located in the City of Detroit along MDOT's highway corridor. MDOT is seeking quotes for six uniaxial or biaxial tilt meters, or alternatively Shape Array Accelerometers, to monitor three different locations with approximately 15 feet between monitoring points at each site. The tilt meters must have a range of plus or minus 15 degrees with a resolution of 0.001 degrees and long-range communications capability to connect with a remote telemetry base station. All necessary cables and accessories for remote communication and wall attachment are to be included in the vendor's quote. Vendors are permitted to note any variations from the specified equipment due to proprietary system differences.

The scope of work requires vendors to provide a complete remote telemetry system including a data logger, modem, software, solar panel, power supply, datalogger enclosure rated for Michigan climate conditions, intermediate nodes, communication cords, and other required accessories. Additionally, vendors must provide a description of a cloud-based hosting site with associated costs, which may be broken down into setup/activation fees and annual hosting fees. The quote must include estimated shipping costs, and vendors should note any items not provided within the system. The telemetry system must be robust enough to accommodate future instrument additions. Questions regarding the RFQ should be directed to Chris Johnecheck at 517-242-3878 or johnecheckc@michigan.gov.

Request For Quote – Retaining Wall Monitoring

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is requesting quotes to monitor lateral movement or tilt on certain retaining walls in their highway corridor. The intent of the instrumentation is to continuously monitor the walls in relatively “real time” and seamlessly deliver this information into a cloud-based system for viewing the data by MDOT. MDOT realizes that these systems are proprietary and some variations from those listed below may be required. If this is the case, note these variations in the vendor’s quote.

1) Provide 6 uniaxial/biaxial tilt meters or a Shape Array Accelerometer to monitor 3 different locations in the City of Detroit. The distance between monitoring points at each location or length of monitoring is approximately 15 ft. These locations are noted on the attached map.

2) The tiltmeters must have a range of plus or minus 15 degrees, resolution of 0.001 degrees, and long-range communications to reach the remote telemetry base station. The necessary cables and accessories to remotely communicate with remote telemetry hub and attach to the concrete wall must be included within the quote.

3) Provide a remote telemetry system(s) which includes a data logger, modem, software, solar panel, power supply, datalogger enclosure rated for Michigan climate, intermediate nodes, communication cords, and other accessories as required to develop a functional system. If certain items are not provided (i.e. modem, battery, etc) please note that in the quote. The tilt meter system should be robust enough to accommodate adding multiple instruments in the future.

4) Provide a description of the cloud-based hosting site and associated cost. The cost can be broken down into a setup/activation fee and annual hosting fee. Other costs associated with this item should also be noted as necessary.

5) Provide estimated shipping cost in the quote.

6) Please contact Chris Johnecheck at 517-242-3878 or johnecheckc@michigan.gov with any questions.
