Specifications
High Current Litz Wire
Background
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) requires Litz wire. As part of a new NIST Innovation in Measurement Science (IMS) project, we are developing novel types of thermosensitive magnetic nanoparticles which can be used for 3D thermal imaging. We need to set the spatial resolution for the imaging by using a high amplitude gradient magnetic field generated by electromagnets made from Litz wire.
Scope
NIST Requires High Current Litz Wire. The Contractor shall design and fabricate an electromagnet for generating high amplitude gradient magnetic fields in the frequency range of DC to 10 kHz. The imaging spatial resolution depends on the magnetic gradient field strength, which depends on the amount of current driven in the Litz wire
Minimum Requirements
The system shall meet the minimum requirements identified below. All items must be new. Used or remanufactured equipment will not be considered for award. Experimental, or prototype will not be considered. The use of “gray market” components not authorized for sale in the U.S. by the proposer is not acceptable. All line items shall be shipped in the original manufacturer’s packaging and include all original documentation and software, when applicable.
All specifications below must be verified at NIST before final acceptance.
Contract Line Item Number CLIN 0001: The contractor shall provide three thousand meters (3000
m) of Litz wire that meets the following minimum requirements.
1. Power requirements
a) The Litz wire shall be able to deliver up to 150 A
b) The Litz wire shall be able to be driven at 300 V
2. Operating bandwidth
a) Shall operate at wide bandwidth, spanning DC to 10 kHz
3. Geometry
a) The Litz wire must have rectangular cross-section geometry
4. Electrical Insulation
a) Shall have proper insulation to be driven at 300 V, 150 A
Delivery
Delivery shall be FOB DESTINATION (or equivalent terms, such as INCOTERMS Delivered Duties Paid), Scheduling of the delivery shall take place at a time mutually agreed upon by the Government and Contractor. This delivery shall be scheduled as soon as possible but shall occur No Later Than (NLT) ninety (90) days ARO.
FOB Destination means: The contractor shall pack and mark the shipment in conformance with carrier requirements, deliver the shipment in good order and condition to the point of delivery specified in the purchase order, be responsible for any loss of and/or damage to the goods occurring before receipt and acceptance of the shipment by the consignee at the delivery point specified in the purchase order; and pay all charges to the specified point of delivery. The contractor shall deliver all Line Items to:
The National Institute of Standards and Technology 100 Bureau Drive, Building 221 Room A114 Gaithersburg, MD 20899-8441
Inspection and Acceptance
In addition to the inspection and acceptance terms articulated in 52.212-4, the Government reserves the right to perform such performance tests and evaluations as defined below to verify specified system performance. Such tests and evaluations, if performed, shall be conducted within the environment that the system is to be operated. The Contractor has the right to be present during the tests and evaluations, if performed, at the Contractor’s expense.
Inspection and acceptance will occur within seven (7) business days after receipt of the Litz Wire at NIST.
- The Litz wire shall be tested by the manufacturer prior to shipping to ensure that it functions properly. Upon receipt at NIST, the Litz wire will be inspected for damage. If there is no damage, the wire will be electrically tested, and the insulation will be inspected. If there is no damage and the test and inspection are passed, NIST will accept the equipment.
A visual inspection of the Litz Wire will be performed by the NIST Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) to identify surface defects or any form of indication that the Litz Wire was damaged during transport to NIST. The Government shall have sole discretion to require repair or replacement of damaged and/or nonconforming supplies at no cost to the Government. The Government at any time prior to acceptance shall reject the Litz Wire due to defects and/or nonconformance.
Warranty The contractor shall warrant the Litz wire for a period of three (3) months after receipt of the equipment and shall be in accordance with terms in FAR 52.212-4.
Payment Schedule
The Contractor shall be paid, in accordance with Net 30-day payment terms, upon receipt and acceptance of a proper invoice, in accordance with the following schedule:
1. 100% after receipt and acceptance by the TPOC of all delivered system.
2. The Government anticipates inspection will occur upon:
- After the testing procedures set forth in this document have been completed
